We are seeking a forward-thinking and adaptable Director of Engineering, ERP Platform & Integration to lead the strategy, operations, and evolution of our enterprise ERP platform and integrations. This is a senior technical role responsible for owning the ERP platform (currently SAP) with the flexibility to guide future transitions as our business grows and evolves. The ideal candidate will bring deep ERP experience, especially in platform engineering, system administration, security architecture, infrastructure operations, and integration engineering, while demonstrating a modern mindset around cloud, SaaS, and integration-first ecosystems.
In this role, you will lead a cross-functional team responsible for the ERP core platform, infrastructure, security, and enterprise integrations. You’ll drive engineering excellence, cost optimization, and system resilience, while partnering closely with business, product, and engineering teams. As a hands-on leader, you will play a critical role in building and mentoring a high-performing team, establishing platform governance, and delivering reliable, scalable, and integrated systems that support mission-critical business functions. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the technology backbone of a new enterprise from Day 1 – and to future-proof it for years to come.
Responsibilities
ERP Platform Strategy & Ownership
Own and effectively communicate the ERP platform architecture and roadmap, guiding technical decisions that support current operations, reduce technical debt, anticipate future platform transformation, and incorporate changes to the platform due to business changes
Lead platform design and evolution, balancing stability, scalability, security, and cost-efficiency
Ensure proper platform and integration documentation is created in a timely and accurate manner
Ensure platform readiness for Day 1 operations as a newly-created company, including cloned environments, infrastructure provisioning, and system separation
Evaluate and recommend ERP technologies – considering business goals, vendor landscape, and the maturity of cloud-native and SaaS ERP alternatives
Infrastructure, Security & Operations
Oversee ERP infrastructure architecture and operations, ensuring availability, performance, and supportability across all cloud and on-prem environments
Oversee ERP system administration activities, including user and role provisioning, transport management, environment refreshes, job scheduling, system health checks, and overall platform stability across development, test, and production landscapes
Implement robust platform-level security, including identity and access management (IAM), role-based access controls, segregation of duties (SoD), and audit readiness
Establish monitoring, observability, and incident response protocols, ensuring high system uptime and rapid resolution of issues
Optimize platform costs through FinOps practices, automation, and right-sizing infrastructure resources
Define and enforce environment management standards, including development, QA, and production, as well as transport management and release controls
Enterprise Integration
Own the ERP integration strategy and execution, managing APIs, middleware platforms, data pipelines, and event-driven integrations with surrounding business systems
Support both ERP-native (e.g., SAP BTP) and enterprise-wide integration tools (e.g., TIBCO, Sterling, Mulesoft), ensuring secure and reliable data flow
Coordinate with internal and external teams (including security and networking teams) to deliver end-to-end system connectivity across Finance, HR, Procurement, and other domains
Ensure integration scalability and resiliency, supporting near real-time and batch data processing as appropriate to business needs
Team Leadership & Development
Build and lead a high-performing engineering team, including platform engineers, infrastructure specialists, security engineers, and integration developers – including both full-time employees, contractors, and vendor support
Define team structure, roles, and growth paths, aligning with the needs of a rapidly evolving technology organization
Foster a culture of accountability, curiosity, and collaboration, building a team of technically strong engineers who are self-motivated, team-oriented, and capable of navigating complex interpersonal dynamics with empathy and professionalism
Mentor technical talent and promote learning, enabling team members to develop platform-specific skills (e.g., SAP BASIS, cloud ERP), cross-functional awareness, and leadership capabilities
Partner cross-functionally, serving as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and other stakeholders
Governance, Compliance & Vendor Management
Establish and manage governance processes for configuration, change management, and solution delivery within the ERP ecosystem
Ensure compliance with internal controls, data privacy, and regulatory requirements, including SOX, GDPR, and industry-specific standards
Manage relationships with vendors, cloud providers, and system integrators, ensuring accountability, service quality, and alignment with long-term strategy
Evaluate third-party tools, services, and vendors to enhance the ERP platform’s capabilities, integration patterns, user experience, and delivery patterns
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
10+ years of progressive experience in enterprise systems engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing ERP platforms (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Workday, or similar)
Deep technical expertise in ERP system administration, infrastructure, and security—experience with SAP BASIS, cloud ERP platforms, or platform modernization initiatives strongly preferred
Proven success leading platform operations and engineering teams across multi-environment landscapes (development, QA, production)
Strong understanding of ERP integration patterns and technologies, including APIs, middleware, ETL pipelines, and enterprise data flows
Demonstrated ability to manage system lifecycle activities such as upgrades, migrations, cutovers, and environment refreshes
Experience implementing and governing security controls, including role-based access management, SoD policies, audit readiness, and compliance frameworks (e.g., SOX, GDPR)
Track record of driving cost optimization, automation, and performance improvements across infrastructure and application layers
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
Experience creating and managing vendor relationships, including ERP providers, cloud hosting partners, and system integrators
Skilled at building and leading high-performing, collaborative teams—fostering a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and mutual support
Ability to lead through change and ambiguity, especially in transformation environments such as M&A, carve-outs, or ERP re-platforming
Excellent communication and executive reporting skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business impact
