Purpose (Why the role exists):
The Employee Relations Director will play a critical leadership role in shaping and maintaining a positive and productive work environment across all Foley Hospitality entities. This position is responsible for providing strategic direction, leadership, and expertise in managing employee relations issues, compliance, and fostering a culture of trust, inclusion, and collaboration across the organization. The Employee Relations Director will work closely with senior leadership and will provide the guidance necessary for senior leadership to make employment decisions. The ideal candidate will have deep experience working within the hospitality industry in California, coupled with a deep understanding of labor laws, industry best practices, and employee engagement strategies.
Core Tasks (What you are responsible for):
This role will involve a variety of tasks, with your primary responsibilities outlined below
Develop and implement comprehensive employee relations strategies and initiatives that align with the company’s overall mission and objectives, ensuring a positive workplace culture in all hotel and winery operations across California.
Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local labor laws, including California-specific labor regulations, wage and hour laws, health and safety standards, and industry-specific compliance issues in hospitality and wine production.
Provide guidance and resolution for complex employee relations issues, including grievances, conflicts, complaints, and disciplinary actions. Work with legal teams when necessary to manage potential litigation risks.
Lead investigations into employee complaints, concerns, or incidents in a fair and thorough manner. Prepare and present detailed reports to senior management on findings, outcomes, and recommendations for corrective actions.
Partner with HR and leadership teams to support performance management processes, ensuring fair and consistent application of policies and practices, and providing guidance on performance improvement plans when necessary.
Collaborate with senior leadership, HR, legal, and operations teams to create/edit policies, programs, and solutions that support business goals, employee well-being, and operational efficiency in hospitality environments.
Oversee the collection and reporting of team member feedback and data to guide decision-making and areas of focus in the various operations.

Skills & Qualifications (What you need to bring):
Education: Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related experience required, including at least 3 years of management experience.
At least 6 years of progressive experience in Employee Relations, HR, or labor relations, with a focus on the hospitality and/or wine industry.
Proven experience working with California-specific labor laws and industry-specific compliance issues.
Strong track record in managing complex employee relations cases and implementing workplace solutions that drive results.
Ability to influence and advise senior leadership on employee relations matters.
Desired Attributes:
Industry Expertise: Familiarity with the unique dynamics of the hospitality and wine industries, including the seasonal nature of the business and diverse workforce.
This position will require a mix of office-based work and occasional travel to hotel and winery locations throughout California. Flexibility is required for managing teams and addressing employee issues across multiple locations.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
