The Director of Editorial and Digital Strategy leads UCSF Health's editorial vision and digital content infrastructure--blending platform governance, enterprise storytelling, and strategic communications to inform, inspire, and engage. This position is responsible for managing UCSF Health's internal communications platform, shaping a cohesive editorial voice, and overseeing a team dedicated to digital content operations and storytelling.

This leader partners closely with colleagues in communications, marketing and departments across the enterprise to develop content strategies, manage key campaigns, and maintain message alignment across the health system. Through compelling content and digital excellence, the Director helps advance UCSF Health's mission, connect employees to purpose, and bring institutional priorities to life.
Key Responsibilities: Shape and drive a unified editorial strategy Lead the development of a systemwide editorial voice that reflects UCSF Health's mission, values, and strategic priorities. Build and manage a forward-looking editorial calendar in partnership with internal, executive, and change communications teams. Oversee the development of flagship content, including feature stories, campaigns, and core messaging assets (boilerplate, fact sheets, etc.).
Oversee UCSF Health's internal communications platform: Govern and evolve the intranet and digital communications platform, ensuring intuitive user experience and strong contributor engagement. Develop publishing workflows, platform policies, contributor training, and analytics strategies to support scalable, high-impact communication. Leverage analytics to assess content performance, refine communication strategies, and guide content planning decisions. Partner with HR, IT, and communications leads to ensure cohesive, accessible, and user-centered information delivery.
Lead and develop a high-performing content and platform team: Supervise and mentor two managers: one focused on storytelling and initiative content, the other on intranet governance and digital operations. Set team goals, drive execution, and support growth and development. Ensure alignment across comms verticals and a strong partnership with internal, executive, and change communications teams. Support strategic initiatives and systemwide engagement Partner across the organization to deliver messaging for high-priority initiatives and campaigns. Elevate stories that highlight the impact of UCSF Health's people, progress, and programs. Act as a strategic thought partner to departments and project teams seeking to better reach internal audiences.
Advance alignment, innovation, and brand clarity: Serve as a key liaison to UCSF campus communicators and UCSF Health Marketing to ensure consistent voice, tone, and content strategy across platforms. Partner with Marketing on content calendars, creative execution, and shared storytelling initiatives (e.g., video, photo, social). Bring a strategic lens to platform innovation, new content formats, and creative employee engagement approaches. Help translate health system complexity into clear, cohesive, and mission-driven communications.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. The annual base salary range for this position is $121,900 - $277,100, with a min. target entry point on $157,050.
