Major League Baseball is seeking a Director, Corporate Communications to lead strategic communications efforts that enhance the organization’s reputation, drive key messaging, and engage key stakeholders, including media, employees, and partners. This role will oversee external and internal communications strategies, working closely with leadership to ensure alignment with the MLB’s objectives in areas including social responsibility, community affairs, baseball and softball development, youth engagement, and charitable partnerships.
The ideal candidate is a proven communications leader with experience in the cross-section of sports, media, culture, and social responsibility. The successful candidate will be adept at managing public relations, crisis communications, executive messaging, and media relations at a high level. We are looking for someone who is creative, proactive, and knowledgeable in the areas of social media and influencer culture.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute strategic corporate communications plans to enhance brand reputation, media visibility, and stakeholder engagement
Serve as a primary media contact, managing relationships with top-tier sports, culture, community, and entertainment media
Lead the development of press releases, media statements, key messaging, and editorial content to support business objectives
Identify opportunities to amplify the organization’s initiatives through proactive media outreach and storytelling
Prepare executives and key spokespeople for media interviews, speaking engagements, and public appearances
Provide outstanding service to important internal departments by immersion in those areas and providing strategic communications guidance
Develop and implement programs that foster employee engagement, inclusion, and cross-departmental collaboration
Work closely with HR and senior leadership to craft messaging for town halls, company-wide announcements, and internal initiatives
Partner with Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and Corporate Social Responsibility teams to highlight employee-driven initiatives and community impact
Manage one staff member to collaborate in achieving successful results while nurturing the staff member’s professional growth and development
Develop and maintain crisis communication plans, ensuring swift and effective response to reputation-sensitive issues
Serve as a key point of contact for media inquiries and crisis situations, collaborating with legal and executive teams to manage responses
Monitor media coverage, social sentiment, and public perception to proactively identify and mitigate potential risks
Support C-suite and senior executives with the development of speeches, op-eds, thought leadership content, and industry presentations
Identify opportunities for executives to participate in industry panels, media interviews, and business forums
Lead PR and media engagement strategies for publicizing community and youth participation events, civic elements of league sponsorships, and charitable partnerships
Support the communications efforts for league initiatives, All-Star Week, international series, and other high-profile events
Qualifications & Skills
10+ years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, social responsibility, and/or media relations, preferably in sports, media, or entertainment
Strong relationships with national and industry media across sports, culture, and entertainment
Experience developing executive communications, crisis management strategies, and media messaging
Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with a track record of crafting compelling narratives
Strong understanding of internal communications strategies, corporate culture, and employee engagement programs
Ability to navigate sensitive issues and high-pressure situations with professionalism and discretion
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, media monitoring tools, and social media analytics platforms
Bilingual fluency in Japanese or Spanish is a bonus
Ability to travel and work non-traditional hours, including weekends and evenings as needed
Salary Range: $115,000 - $140,000 (Base Salary) + Bonus
As a candidate for this position, your salary and related aspects of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills, and any other factors MLB considers relevant to the hiring decision.
