Position Summary
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Instructor/Program Director is responsible for leveraging their expertise to develop, maintain, and deliver education services to students through creating and maintaining core curriculum, ensuring delivery of core curriculum, preparing course plans and material, supervising staff, and oversight of the Program. The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Instructor/Program Director will monitor and manage student progress and attendance, student advising, and grade reporting. The Instructor/Program Director will also ensure continued compliance with Federal, State, and Institutional accreditation agencies.
The DMS Instructor/Program Director will adhere to the guidelines as specified by the Lawson State Community College Policy and Procedures Manual, the President of the college, the Vice President of Instruction, and the Board of Trustees for the Alabama Community College System in addition to the Commission on Accreditation of Health Programs.
Salary Schedule Placement:
Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule D1 IB-IV ($42,108- $94,363) based on education and experience. Summer appointments are based on enrollment- Salary Schedule D1 ($13,001 - $29,184) based on education and experience.
Annual Potential Salary including Summer Appointment ($55,109- $123,547)Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serve in a supervisory capacity by managing administrative details of the program and courses in compliance with Alabama Community College System and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs
Prepare class schedule for each semester
Plan and teach classes in DMS, simulated laboratory and clinical in accordance with approved course outlines and program of study
Plan clinical rotation schedules
Secure new clinical sites with clinical affiliate agreements
Advise students academically
Counsel and/or conference with students as necessary
Maintain accurate student records
Maintain licensure and credentials
Serve on department, divisional and institutional teams or committees
Collaborate with teaching teams in curriculum development, syllabi review, textbook selection, classroom and clinical instruction
Accept teaching assignments which may include day, evening and weekend classes and off-campus sites.
Achieve and maintain program certification/accreditation by adhering to a systematic plan of evaluation.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor to complete professional development or teaching assignments.
The DMS Instructor/Program Director will be expect to work a flexible schedule which may include working difference program assignment courses, and campuses, weekend, days, and evening hours. Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION, STANDARDS, AND TRAINING:
Bachelor’s degree of equivalents (Master’s degree in DMS preferred)
Minimum of two year of full-time time experience as a registered sonographer in the professional sonography field (Cardiac)
REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS:
Current certification in first aid administration
Current Registered Sonographer certification
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Exceptional verbal and communication skills
Demonstrated literacy in computer technology
Ability to travel to all clinical locations
Have course work in instructional methodologies, evaluation, and assessment
Have proficiency in curriculum development
Post and main regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy
Participate in faculty discussion about curriculum, teaching-learning techniques, and teaching materials
Actively participate on division and college teams and task forces
Submit a professional Growth Plan for approval by President prior to pursuing advancement in Rank, in accordance with guidelines for State Board Trustee Policy 605.02
Participate actively and creatively in the activities of the institution
Perform other duties as assigned by the Division Chair, Associate Dean, Academic Dean, Vice President, or President
