DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR-MAJOR GIFTS Northern Star Scouting offers an exciting opportunity to join our Development Team as Major Gifts Director . In this role, you will develop and execute fundraising strategies and activities to carry forward our vision that all youth have the character, confidence and experience to improve the world! In this ambassador role, you will qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift and planned gift prospects to align supporter interests with the strategic objectives of Northern Star Scouting.
Primary Responsibilities M anage a portfolio of approximately 100-150 prospects with a primary focus of qualifying and closing gifts of $10,000 or more for endowment, capital, a nd operating . Lead the successful completion of a $35 million Planned Giving C ampaign . Working with the Director of Development, s upport future capital campaigns including coordination of feasibility studies, and campaign implementation. Achieve individual annual campaign goals of approximately $400,000. Articulate and champion the case for support, demonstrating to donors how their gifts directly impact the lives of youth and families in our community. Serve as a subject matter expert for the entire fundraising team on best practices for identifying , cultivating, and soliciting major and planned gifts. Develop and implement personalized stewardship plans for major gift and planned giving donors to ensure they feel connected to the mission and understand the impact of their contributions. Contribute to the annual development plan by setting clear goals, metrics, and timelines for the major and planned giving program. Provide regular reports to leadership on portfolio progress, fundraising results, and campaign milestones. Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to develop compelling case statements, planned giving materials, and other donor-facing content. Actively identify and recruit new board caliber volunteers for development and advisory committees. Represent Scouting within the community by attending and actively participating in appropriate external functions and events and professional organizations. Skills To succeed in this job, you will: Have the ability to build and empower a volunteer team; Be a demonstrated relationship builder and salesperson; Possess good time management and project management skills; Be comfortable with public speaking; Enjoy building formal and informal relationship networks inside and outside the organization; Be able to communicate effectively with top corporate and community leaders; Have experience with proposal development and writing as well as have working knowledge of planned giving vehicles or proven ability to learn; Be goal-oriented, self-starter, team player and problem-solver, with effective organizational and communication skills; Demonstrate a passion for youth development programs; and, Be dependable, accurate, and detail oriented.
Qualifications Bachelor's Degree required. Minimum 5 -7 years of building/ managing major gifts program, proven record securing and cultivating $10,000+ gifts or equivalent. 2-4 years of experience with planned giving processes; sales management and campaign experience is highly desirable. Ability to interface with Northern Star Scouting leaders, team members and board members and Scouting volunteers. Business/management experience, including budget, supervisory, and program development/implementation. Experience in Scouting or another youth development organization is helpful but not required.
Travel within Minnesota/Western Wisconsin (principally Twin Cities area) is required using your own vehicle; mileage reimbursement is provided for business miles. Must have driver's license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance ($100K/$300K/$100K). Must be able to work full-time days, some evenings and weekends.
