We are seeking a passionate and experienced Design Director to lead our design efforts, elevate our creative output, and shape the future of healthcare environments. The Design Director will serve as a creative visionary and strategic leader, driving design excellence across all projects. This role involves leading and mentoring the design team, collaborating with clients and stakeholders, and ensuring that each project reflects Apexs commitment to quality, innovation, and functionality. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the design-build process, with a focus on healthcare and commercial interiors. Key Responsibilities Lead the design team in delivering creative and client-focused solutions from concept through completion. Oversee the development of project designs, ensuring alignment with client goals, brand standards, and project parameters. Establish and maintain design guidelines, standards, and best practices for the firm. Collaborate with clients to understand their vision, goals, and operational needs, translating these into impactful design solutions. Guide the design team in space planning, concept development, material selection, and FF&E specification. Collaborate with the architectural team to ensure cohesive design integration between interior and architectural elements. Ensure all design documentation is of the highest quality, including quality control reviews of design development (DD) drawings to maintain accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project requirements. Manage the workload within the design department by monitoring project timelines, allocating resources effectively, and balancing team assignments to ensure deadlines are met. Partner with Pre-Construction and Construction teams to ensure seamless execution of the design intent. Mentor and develop the design team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and professional growth. Facilitate quarterly and annual performance reviews for design team members, providing constructive feedback and setting goals for professional development. Lead recruitment efforts for the Design Department, including conducting interviews and evaluating candidates to ensure alignment with organizational needs and culture. Address performance issues through professional and constructive disciplinary discussions and manage terminations when necessary, ensuring compliance with company policies and employment laws. Stay informed on industry trends, materials, and best practices, integrating new ideas and technologies into the design process. Represent Apex Design Build at client meetings, presentations, and industry events. Qualifications Bachelors or Masters degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field. 10+ years of experience in commercial interior design, with a focus on healthcare environments preferred. Proven leadership experience, managing design teams and guiding projects from concept to completion. Strong portfolio demonstrating creativity, technical skill, and successful project outcomes. Proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam Revu is required. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Enscape is a plus. Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to inspire confidence in clients and team members. Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail and a commitment to meeting deadlines. A collaborative mindset, with a passion for mentoring and developing talent. Knowledge of building codes, healthcare regulations, and design best practices. Licensure of NCIDQ, AIA, and/or Registered Interior Design, or currently pursuing licensure.
