The Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of Operations will oversee the management and operations within the Digital Solutions department, including technological infrastructure and strategic platform architecture.
1) The DMD is responsible for the day-to-day operations of digital health solutions, ensuring the smooth and coordinated delivery of programs and services. The role has oversight in areas such as strategy, finance, human resources, portfolio and project management, asset and vendor management, and compliance with state and federal privacy and security laws.
2) The DMD is also tasked with maintaining a strong client satisfaction program, overseeing the incident response program, and ensuring business continuity while managing staff and driving key projects. Coordination with internal and external partners, including UMass Chan IT and Information Security, is essential, as well as managing relationships with development partners.
The DMD covers for the MD in their absence.
Responsibilities Operational Oversight: Lead and support daily operations of the Digital Solutions department, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with standards.
Client Relationship Management: Manage relationships with business units, internal leaders, and external clients. Ensure a successful client experience program with prompt responses, service criteria, and training for staff. Oversee the Business Relationship Manager and Business Analyst teams.
Cross-Department Liaison: Act as the key liaison between Digital Solutions, other business units, and external clients.
Liaison with UMass Chan IT/InfoSec: Ensure alignment on technical strategies, cybersecurity, and policy compliance.
Incident Response and Business Continuity: Lead efforts in incident response, disaster recovery, and operational resilience.
Project Management: Oversee multiple technology projects, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery, and coordinate project teams.
Staff Management: Supervise, mentor, and evaluate department staff, fostering professional growth and collaboration.
Contingency and Succession Planning: Collaborate with leadership to prepare for future transitions and maintain stability.
Policy and Process Development: Develop and implement policies to improve efficiency, security, and compliance.
Reporting and Communication: Provide regular updates to senior leadership on operations, projects, and incidents.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field; Master’s preferred. Experience in consulting or the public sector is a plus.
At least 10 years of progressive IT leadership experience, managing IT operations, infrastructure, and projects in a matrixed organization. Proven success in managing large projects and teams. Knowledge of information security, privacy regulations, project management, and client satisfaction is preferred.
Additional Information Preferred Qualifications:
Lean/Six Sigma Certification is preferred.
