Communications Director

Seneca Valley School District is seeking a highly effective communicator with strong leadership skills and experience to serve as the District spokesperson and facilitator of media relations, publications, digital content, and community engagement. The Communications Director provides strategic communications guidance and coordinates messaging to ensure clear, consistent outreach across all communication channels.
This is a permanent 12-month position, 244 workdays per year, available August 2025. Salary is regionally competitive and commensurate with experience. Position reports to the Superintendent.
Seneca Valley is a vibrant suburban district in Southern Butler County, Western Pennsylvania. The Communications Director oversees award-winning publications and social media presence that celebrate the accomplishments of the District's 7,400 students and 900 employees. Coordinates special events across the District, manages a mass notification system, initiates outreach campaigns seeking public input on key issues, and consistently markets and promotes District events and programs. Serves as a key member of the Superintendent's Executive Team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as the District spokesperson and information liaison between the District, media, and community at large. Manages production and distribution of all District press releases. Acts as speech/letter writer for District leadership, as necessary. Supports building level administration with community communications, as necessary. Speaks at public and community meetings on issues of pertinence to District schools and programs. Develops and manages Communications Department budget. Coordinates all District publications (non-student) including the District calendar, e-newsletter, annual report, podcast, promotional brochures, branding guide, and informational materials. Overseas District marketing and promotion efforts; coordinates third party relationships with designers, photographers, videographers, advertisers, and editors. Manages all District communications - including weather and crisis notifications - via several electronic mediums, including a mass notification system, mobile app, and various social media sites, as well as the District website. Coordinates and oversees opportunities for external advertising through District publications. Maintains open lines of communication with community organizations and local officials/politicians; and provides prompt responses to requests for public information. Serves as co-officer for Right to Know requests. Provides guidance to the Superintendent, Administration and School Board on communications-related considerations. Attends all School Board meetings and functions; coordinates bi-monthly recognition of students and staff. Notifies parents and staff as well as various media outlets when school is delayed or canceled due to emergencies or inclement weather. Supervises Communications staff and an administrative assistant. Coordinates and hosts several annual events for the community, staff and parents and utilizes total quality management concepts. REQUIREMENTS: Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or related field. Experience as communications director or similar leadership role in communications or marketing. Success with social media tools and content marketing. Experience in community relations practices and procedures. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships. Managerial skills with supervisory experience. Demonstrated abilities to exercise good judgment and work effectively in situations of elevated stress. Exceptional organizational and time management skills; can coordinate multiple projects with varying deadlines. Demonstrated commitment to producing effective communications that meet the highest standards of professionalism.
