Commissioning Director - New Jersey

Overview:
A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Commissioning Director to oversee the operations of its Commissioning Group in the New York/North Jersey (Metro) area. This leadership role involves full responsibility for business development, project and personnel management, execution of commissioning projects, and financial performance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities


Regional Leadership & Operations


  • Oversee all aspects of the NYC/Metro area Commissioning Office, including business development, personnel oversight, proposal generation, project execution, and financial performance.
  • Serve as a working Director, capable of leading and executing projects directly when needed.
  • Direct and grow the regional Commissioning Group in alignment with corporate goals and objectives.
  • Implement and manage standardized commissioning processes that improve project delivery efficiency and value to clients.
  • Balance personnel workload and manage project profitability and department billability.
  • Monitor project financials and oversee business development efforts in the region.
  • Conduct client introduction and pre-bid meetings; develop and review project proposals and fee estimates.
  • Regularly analyze the market and competitors to enhance positioning and increase market share.
  • Ensure that the latest industry technologies and training are available to commissioning staff.
Personnel Management


  • Lead efforts to recruit, hire, and retain team members based on workload and business growth.
  • Provide technical direction to ensure project execution aligns with quality and client standards.
  • Supervise and manage field commissioning activities to ensure quality output and appropriate resource allocation.
  • Maintain strong client relationships to encourage repeat business and long-term engagement.

Minimum Education & Experience


  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering (required); Masters Degree or MBA (preferred)
  • Commissioning certification (AEE, BCA, ASHRAE, or ACG) required
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in management, engineering, or construction
  • Experience in managing large, complex projects with an emphasis on planning, cost control, and quality
  • Construction or general contractor experience (preferred but not required)
  • Additional credentials (PE license, MBA, or certifications from accredited bodies) preferred
