Together, these pedagogical threads intertwine to create a cohesive, coordinated, and coherent delivery of learning that has a synergistic effect on students’ learning. In addition to the duties of a clinical track faculty (0-20%), the ADCL assists the Director by ensuring that through direct supervision or delegation, clinical-based learning activities are enabling students to meet the SON’s educational objectives (80-100%). The leader works under minimum direction and supervises employees while performing advanced complex managerial work. Leadership responsibilities of this position include, the ADCL will:Actively participate on the Assistant Director Team and Executive Team in leadership of the SON. Collaboratively envision, develop, communicate, and implement a pedagogical vision for clinical learning at the SON that is closely aligned with didactic and skills and simulation learning.Lead in strategy deployment to meet the pedagogical vision and educational objectives for clinical-based learning. Manage and supervise faculty by directing or delegating ongoing operational activities, approving schedules, identifying priorities, setting standards for achieving goals, and regularly evaluating performance. Identify and coordinate professional development opportunities for faculty to enhance effectiveness in meeting the SON’s educational mission through clinical-based learning. Conduct ongoing evaluation and implementation of best practices in clinical learning through a systematic approach to continuous improvement. Develop, implement, evaluate, and oversee compliance with policies and procedures related to clinical or practice –based issues.
Administrative and operational responsibilities of this position, the ADCL will:Serve as the Acting Director in the absence of the Director. Oversee clinical placement and supervise the clinical coordinator. Serve as the SON administrative liaison for partnering clinical agencies. Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of existing and clinical sites. On-site visits to evaluate and improve the quality and effectiveness of faculty teaching in the clinical environment (may be delegated to other qualified team members). Work closely with the Clinical Coordinator and other personnel to identify and affiliate with new clinical sites to meet the placement needs of the SON. In conjunction with faculty, coordinate curriculum decisions and updates related to clinical learning. Coordinate with the Accreditation Specialist for the collection of assessment and evaluation data In coordination with the Assistant Director of Didactic Learning, oversee the duties of level leaders, course-level clinical coordinators, and course coordinators. Review all traditional and digital learning products for educational effectiveness and optimization across the curriculum. Teaching responsibilities of this position, the ADCL will:Teach across the curriculum. Mentor students. Perform professional and community service and outreach; and contribute to ongoing program evaluation and improvement. Educational Requirements for the Position: Earned Master’s in nursing or related field from an accredited institution; DNP or PhD in related field preferred. Must hold an active, or be eligible for, an unencumbered Texas RN license. Experience Required for the Position: Equivalent of 4 years of recent clinical teaching experience in academic nursing education setting and equivalent of 4 years of recent practice experience in a clinical setting required. Equivalent of 2 years of administrative or management experience in an academic setting preferred. Other Requirements for the Position: Demonstrated effective leadership skills, interpersonal skills and collegiality required. Demonstrated capacity for complex analytical and problem-solving activities including, or similar to, the development of clinical placement schedules. Demonstrated experience working with various populations required. Demonstrated experience implementing improvement methodologies preferred. The School of Nursing is located at The Woodlands Center campus in The Woodlands, Texas. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a campus presence as part of the School of Nursing faculty.
