The Jacksonville Public Library is actively seeking one (1) Assistant Director for Library Advancement.
The Assistant Director for Library Advancement (ADLA) reports to the Chief Librarian/ Library Director and leads a team of staff and volunteers responsible for developing, planning and implementing multi-tiered philanthropic and external relations campaigns to increase support for the Jacksonville Public Library’s strategic agenda while enhancing its annual objectives. The ADLA serves as a staff executive liaison to the Library Foundation of Jacksonville (LFJ) and other affinity groups to actively align priorities and collaborate for shared success. The individual will work with board leadership teams to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward gifts and grants from individuals, corporations and foundations. Additionally, the ADLA provides day-to-day operational support and leadership to a small but deeply engaged staff. Primary responsibilities include the following:
Develops, drives and monitors the Library’s progress toward strategic and annual goals in areas of responsibility through active membership in the Library’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
Raises significant funds through the cultivation and solicitation of individual and corporate prospects.
Designs and writes promotional fundraising materials, in conjunction with the Assistant Director for Marketing and Communications.
Works strategically to implement and build constituency programs and activities for the LFJ.
Acts as the staff executive liaison to the Library Foundation of Jacksonville; helps identify and recruit board members for the LFJ.
Acts as spokesperson for the library system in meetings with public officials, community groups and leaders, library associations, and other organizations as needed.
Cultivates and maintains relationships with community leaders, organizations, and associations; helps identify and recruit members for the Friends of the Jacksonville Public Library (FJPL).
Promotes the library system, the Library Foundation of Jacksonville, the Friends of the Library groups, and volunteerism for the Library by speaking to various groups, preparing journal and newsletter articles through media contacts and other promotional opportunities. Continues and improves processes designed to recognize donors on an ongoing basis.
Manages Library staff to successfully secure grant funding for the Library.
Maintains relationships with Library staff to ensure applications and grant proposals to the LFJ and FJPL are submitted and awarded. Follows-up with library managers to ensure timely utilization of grants.
Ensures the Library and LFJ are outstanding stewards of all gifts, per organizational policies and procedures.
Supports the overall mission of the library by providing customer service in a manner that creates a positive customer experience.
Works with diverse populations to provide services in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner.
Communicates clear direction, manages for results, and leads organizational change.
Assigns responsibility, takes corrective action, demonstrates leadership in evaluating, developing, and motivating employees.
Performs related work as required.
Position Requirements: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution with six years’ professional experience in fundraising, library operations, or sales in the library industry, two of which will be managerial experience.
Library fundraising experience is preferred.
License/Certification/Registration: A valid driver's license is required prior to application and must be maintained during employment in this class.
