POSITION SUMMARY: To oversee Camp Cherokee's Counselor-In-Training program by providing transferrable leadership skills and guidance. Create and implement curriculum that will effectively train young teens into becoming counselors at Camp Cherokee. Create, plan and manage Counselor in Training curriculum that will effectively prepare C.I.T.'s in becoming counselors. Review and create a rolling 3 week curriculum, which includes creative program training capabilities. Develop C.I.T. daily schedules and their job responsibilities for each day. Train and manage C.I.T.'s in cleanliness of camp facilities and property. Communicate C.I.T. job responsibilities and expectations to group and other staff members. Manage the evaluation process for all C.I.T.'s at Camp Cherokee. Familiarize and train C.I.T.'s with emergency action plans, policies and procedures specific to Camp Cherokee. Assist in staff training programs. Enforce C.I.T. curfew requirements. Teach C.I.T.'s the basics of program planning - develop daily programs. Provide transferrable leadership skills and guidance to Counselors in Training. Maintain direction and positive role model behavior to all staff and Counselors in Training. Communicate positively and enthusiastically with all C.I.T.'s and other staff members. Provide constant constructive feedback to C.I.T.'s regarding their work and camper/ staff interactions. Assist in the transition from camper to staff member. Assist program staff when needed. Opening/ Closing Day Responsibilities Plan and supervise campers and staff during "bridge" sessions. Manage and order cleaning and toiletry materials. Actively assist in "OD" responsibilities. Assist in supervision during off site trips. Identify, maintain and create an inventory of all cleaning and toiletry materials. Note when repairs are needed or new cleaning materials are needed. Qualifications: Must be 21 years of age or have completed at least two years of college. Must be certified in First Aid and CPR. Must attend all pre-camp training, retreats, and opening training session. Possess leadership qualities and ability to use sound judgment. Good health, enthusiasm, individual maturity, moral character, team qualities, and communication skills. Possess interest in the development of children. Must be able to endure hot temperatures, physical exertion, manual labor, behavioral conflicts, and must be able to walk, run, and swim every day. Physical requirements of the C.I.T. Director at Camp Cherokee include endurance during prolonged activities, bending, stooping and lifting. Other physical aspects include the ability to observe and manipulate leadership activities, to meet the needs and skill levels of all Counselors in Training.
