Overview Element has an opportunity for a Business Development Director to join our growing commercial team. The Business Development Director is an enterprise seller responsible for the highest accounts within our Environmental and Food Testing divisions in Life Sciences.
This role involves pursuing sales opportunities to sell the full range of Environmental and Food Testing services within designated accounts to meet their budgets. You will support the commercial team and strategic or key accounts within your territory, engaging in activities at local sites. The ideal candidate will demonstrate managerial courage, be action-oriented, customer-focused, and entrepreneurial.
Preferred Location: Texas (Houston preferred)
Responsibilities
Drive growth of top-tier strategic accounts, especially in oil & gas sectors.
Coach Business Development Managers to exceed activity, pipeline, and conversion KPIs.
Take ownership of the sales process, systems, and results to meet and exceed standards.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers and influencers within assigned accounts.
Expand business with dormant and existing accounts; prospect new potential clients.
Identify early sales opportunities to maximize share of wallet for Element.
Follow up promptly on quotations for your customer base.
Achieve sales goals through account retention, penetration, and conversion.
Manage relationships and utilize technical support for sales assistance.
Communicate effectively across all levels within the organization and externally.
Represent Element professionally at industry meetings and community events.
Lead sales activities including qualification, relationship building, needs assessment, solution presentation, and closing.
Identify additional testing needs within accounts to uncover new opportunities.
Use CRM actively to record activities, maintain accurate contact details, and ensure data integrity.
Participate in pipeline reviews and keep CRM records current.
Maintain knowledge of Element’s service offerings through training and development.
Ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements related to safety, environment, and governance.
Skills / Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of technical sales experience in the environmental testing industry.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Sciences, or a related field (preferred).
At least 3 years of experience leading or coaching Business Development teams or Account Executives.
Strong financial literacy and business acumen—ability to sell value, not just price.
Deep understanding of regulatory and compliance drivers in environmental and energy sectors.
Ability to interpret customer quotes, contracts, and testing specifications.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Dynamics AX and CRM.
Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to travel up to 50%, including some overnight stays.
