The BLET School Director at Blue Ridge Community College plays a critical leadership role in the establishment and administration of the college’s Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Program, ensuring full compliance with the North Carolina Department of Justice (DOJ) Justice Standards and the 2025 BLET Curriculum requirements for the 868-hour program. This position holds direct supervision, direction, and control over all individuals involved in the planning, development, instruction, and administration of BLET courses. The Director is responsible for the strategic oversight and operational coordination of the BLET Academy, working collaboratively with certified instructors, college staff, and partnering law enforcement agencies to deliver high-quality, accredited criminal justice training. The Director ensures that cadets receive a rigorous and supportive educational experience that prepares them for successful careers in law enforcement.

•Perform responsibilities of the school director as referenced in North Carolina Justice Academy, NC Administrative Codes: 12 NCAC 09B.0202 Refer to:
•Administer the course delivery in accordance with Commission procedures and standards, consider advisory guidelines issued by the Commission, and ensure that the training offered is safe, effective and within Commission set guidelines.
•Review each instructor's lesson plans and other instructional materials for conformance to Commission standards and to minimize repetition and duplication of subject matter.
•Obtain and maintain necessary certification to be BLET Director through NC Training and Standards.
•Plan and coordinate and create a foundational structure for BLET classes to deliver certified and professional instruction with the highest ethical standards.
•Demonstrate professionalism, fairness, and honesty in all aspects of the performance of duties.
•Provide leadership based on ethics and principles as they relate to the functions and operations of the Police Academy.
•Maintain a consistent and functional budget for successful operation of the BLET program.
•Teach a minimum load within the BLET curriculum in accordance with NC Training and Standards.
•Keep accurate and precise records in accordance with NC Training and Standards.
•Maintain professional working relationship with NC Training and Standards, area Law Enforcement Agencies and regional partners.
•Assist in recruiting future cadets for upcoming BLET classes.
•Manage all equipment, including vehicles, necessary for functional operation of the BLET program.
•Identify needs and develop plans and projections for future academy growth or organizational improvements.
•Provide each instructor with a current commission-approved course outline and all necessary additional materials concerning the instructor's duties and responsibilities.
•Arrange for the timely availability of appropriate audiovisual aids and materials, publications, facilities, and equipment for training in all topic areas.
•Direct and manage in-service and mandated training for Blue Ridge Community College Public Safety Consortium.
•Monitor instructor performance, taking corrective action when necessary.
•Provide specialized training for academy instructors; ensure accuracy of time and attendance.
•Maintain and update the Blue Ridge Community College BLET website and course reservation system.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
--Five years of practical experience as a criminal justice officer or an administrator or specialist in a field directly related to the instructor criminal justice system
--General Instructor Certification through NC Training and Standards
--One year of the required five years’ experience must have been actively participating in criminal justice as a commission certified instructor
--Intermediate skills with MS Office products
--Excellent communication skills, listening, writing, and speaking
--Effective collaboration, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
--Excellent customer service skills
--Ability to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently
--Excellent organizational skills
Additional Information Preferred Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree
•Experience with BLET Training and Standards documentation
•Experience with community college processes and procedures
•In-service training experience for law enforcement
•Supervisory experience in the field
•Physical Fitness instructor certification
•Current Criminal Justice School Director for Law Enforcement
•Has attended the BLET Level-Set School Directors Training and Conference
