PURPOSE
The Middle School Athletic/Activities Director is to provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sport and extracurricular activity, and the principles of fair play. This is a Part-Time position.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Organize and administers the overall program of extracurricular activities for the middle school in order to ensure continuity and consistency within and between each extracurricular activity. Provide leadership in the selection, assignment and evaluation of athletic coaches and assists the principal in the selection, assignment and evaluation of sponsors. Foster good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the extracurricular activities program. Serve as district liaison with various parent and community extracurricular activity groups and clubs including, but not limited to, athletics, vocal and instrumental music and cheerleading. Assume responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all athletic events and oversee the organization and scheduling of other extracurricular events. Schedule the use of facilities for practice sessions, games, activities and school functions. Assist in the development of and supervise compliance with all appropriate rules and regulations governing the administration of extracurricular activities. Direct the extracurricular program designed to foster support for the athletic teams and school spirit among nonparticipants Assist in the process of adding or deleting activities for the extracurricular program. Provide direction for accountability and accounting of all financial resources associated with extracurricular activities. Oversee Coaches on inventory and security of all equipment to ensure all equipment is properly stored and ready to issue for the following school year. Assist coaches on ordering (replacing)/repairing/reconditioning equipment accordingly for the following school year. General Responsibility: Requires and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home events. Arrange transportation for athletic contest/activity event participants. Verify each student participant's eligibility according to established physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participant in MSHSAA Sponsored events. Verify each coach's eligibility (e.g. concussion protocol, first aid/CPR certifications) as established by laws from MSHSAA. Prepare and administer the athletic program budget and oversees activity accounts. Requisition program supplies and equipment. i.e.: Purchase Orders Supervise all ticket sales for athletic events and supervise fund-raising for all athletic related programs. Arrange all details of visiting the team'/groups' needs. Schedule non-school use of playing fields and facilities. Organize and facilitate seasonal coach/parent/student meetings for each sport. Follow a board policy on all transfer requests and adhere to contracts entered by the Board of Education. Keep records of the results of all middle school athletic contests and maintain a record file of all award winners. Evaluate head coaches and oversee evaluation of assistants. Assist the principal in the evaluation of sponsors. Assure compliance with all applicable MSHSAA rules and regulations including the submission of forms and payment as required. Maintain the overall middle school calendar of events. Through communication and cooperation will coordinate with the High School Athletic Directors and District Athletic Director. Other duties as assigned by the principal or other administrative staff which is consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of the position. Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports To: Building Principal
Supervises: Head and Assistant Coaches, club sponsors and oversees coordination with Fine Arts performances
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum: Bachelor's Degree; coaching or event experience
Preferred: Current salaried employee within the district. Previous successful, positive head coaching experience.
An ideal candidate will have a professional and friendly demeanor, positive and effective communication skills and previous experience as an athletic director.

Technology: Perform computer word processing (including spreadsheets) and Internet research. Access and create reports using the District's student information software and databases Adhere to all District policies and procedures regarding technology use. These are essential functions of the job.
Physical demands: Frequently move in and around the building and grounds to visit classrooms, attend meetings, and supervise bus loading and unloading and also be able to sit for an hour or more at a time. The position requires the ability to hear conversations in a noisy environment. Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position including attending Board meetings, student activities and events, and IEP meetings. Weekends or in evening hours is common. These are essential functions of the job.
Environmental conditions: The work environment is consistent with a typical office environment; however, they will occasionally be outside in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees. The individual who holds this position is frequently required to work irregular or extended hours. These are essential functions of the job.
