Position Summary: Under the Medical Director's guidance, the Associate Medical Director will oversee Physicians within the assigned clinic facility sites to ensure standard practice guidelines and quality of care are maintained. As a Physician, this role will provide comprehensive, primary, and preventive health care services that are culturally and linguistically appropriate. The role works in partnership with the Medical Director to promote patient access to high-quality care that is continuous, consistent, and well-coordinated. Associate Medical Directors are expected to actively support and uphold the mission and values of the organization. In the absence of the Medical Director, they will report to the Chief Medical Officer.
Responsibilities:
Develop, review, and implement clinical practice guidelines in alignment with mission, vision, and values of the contracting and national agencies in addition to the clinic organization. Contributes in various committees and meetings where Medical leadership input is needed and provides direct supervision of the assigned Medical providers including proper orientation of new staff. Participate in the recruitment process including screening, interviewing, and selection process of medical staff and guides, directs, disciplines. Performs evaluations, coaches and mentors to motivate staff concerning work efficiency and performance to ensure standards of the clinic are met. Oversee closing of encounters and all other open task items of provider departure. Reviewing clinical practice by developing and participating in medical record audits, peer review, and other practice review activities. Review email: a) overnight- on call service- for urgency/ emergency calls - verifying documentation in EPIC. b) - morning new emails- Outlook schedule/ updates/ urgent matters needing quick response- such as Insurer/ IPA grievances. Providing medical practice oversight for primary care operations to include involvement in individual provider practice and primary care program operations. Collaborate with the CMO, Medical Director, other Associate Medical Director, and other medical providers to assess current policies and protocols, make recommendations, and approve all clinical policies and standing orders on a regular basis. Monitors clinical issues to ensure proper protocols are used and risk is mitigated. Providing medical practice perspective and guidance with regard to contracted managed care issues. Providing medical practice perspective and guidance to primary care partnerships with other organizations and community partners, participate in negotiation of partnership contracts and agreements. Assuring quality practices are promoted by the development of practice guidelines, USPTF, staff development activity, clinical practice review. (National, state and local regulatory guidelines, professional society clinical guidelines) Assuring coordination of activities and clinical practice for medical care and clinical services. Participating in and providing medical leadership and perspective in medical directors meeting and any other relevant committees. EPIC-EMR- completing office visit documentation, brief review of recent clinicians' documentation for those under your supervision, review and documentation of submitted RNP- PA-C notes for compliance with standards of supervision, review lab results, review medication refill requests, responses to MyChart- patient messages, call service messages. Closing of encounters timely based on the organizations billing revenue cycle. Services regarding LVN, medical assistants and nursing practice issues in clinical operations and services. Providing medical perspective and leadership in critical incident reviews and other medical practice aspects of risk management. Providing medical practice perspective with regard to department billing procedures and policies. Facilitating and coordinating clinical and placements in the department. Assuring that appropriate contracts are in place to address liability, student health, and placement issues. Assists in fund development as needed. Provides support to integrate clinical departments with programs such as Psychiatry, Mental Health, Primary Care, Community Health, drug & alcohol, STD/HIV, Outreach and Eligibility, Case Management, Community Organizing, Women & Children, and Unhoused. Other responsibilities and duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practice of preventive medicine. Knowledge of the state and federal laws pertaining to medicine and to community health centers. Knowledge of the structure and function of community health centers. The skill in communicating effectively with patients and their families. Skill in establishing effective working relationships with staff and general public. Minimum Qualifications:
Education and/or Equivalent Experience: Graduation from a college or university accredited by the American Medical Association with a Doctor of Medicine degree or accredited by the American Osteopathic Association with a Doctor or Osteopathy degree. If education occurred at a foreign medical school, the applicant must possess a current Educational Council Foreign Medical Graduate (ECFMG) Certificate. Successful completion of an approved program of residency training in family practice. Alternatively, applicants may qualify with equivalent clinical experience or completion of a residency program, subject to review and approval. Board Certification in Family Practice preferred; 3-5 years of clinical experience in one or more areas of medicine; 3-5 years of administrative or supervisory experience, preferably in an ambulatory setting License to practice medicine in the State of California plus current DEA registration.
