Overview Citi’s Legal Department is hiring an experienced bank regulatory lawyer as senior attorney (C-15 – Director level) in its U.S. Bank Regulatory Legal Group. Citi has more than 200 years of experience providing banking products and services to clients through its global network across more than 180 countries. The Bank Regulatory Legal Group advises on a broad range of U.S. federal banking laws and regulations and serves internal clients across the enterprise, including Risk, Finance, and Compliance. The role requires a pragmatic senior lawyer who can operate effectively in an in-house setting for a large, complex global banking organization. The group focuses on regulations under the National Bank Act, Federal Reserve Act, Bank Merger Act, Bank Holding Company Act, and Federal Reserve Regulations K, O, W, and Y in connection with Citi’s activities, transactions, and investments. Responsibilities Provide timely and actionable legal counsel to Citi’s lines of business and functions, including during acquisitions, divestitures, internal reorganizations, and proposals for new or updated products and services. Advise Risk, Compliance, Finance and other functions on U.S. bank regulatory issues affecting their areas of responsibility. Collaborate with business line lawyers, country counsel, and other regulatory lawyers to ensure integrated advice. Prepare or oversee regulatory applications and notices under U.S. bank regulations (e.g., OCC Part 7 notices, Bank Merger Act applications, and Federal Reserve Regulation K notices). Stay current on changing laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting Citi. Qualifications 10–15+ years of relevant experience providing legal advice at a US GSIB, law firm, or with Federal Reserve, FDIC, or OCC. Deep and broad experience advising on core bank regulatory issues, including the National Bank Act, legal lending limits, the Federal Reserve Act, Bank Holding Company Act, and Federal Reserve Regulations K, O, R, W, and Y. Experience with international banking organizations and Subpart A of Regulation K, as well as global custody issues, is especially relevant. Experience preparing regulatory applications and notices for the Federal Reserve, OCC, and/or FDIC. Knowledge of U.S. bank regulatory reporting requirements, resolution planning requirements, and the Volcker Rule is preferred. Skills Ability to partner with and advise business stakeholders and functional partners, interfacing with senior leaders in the Legal Department. Ability to manage a variety of broad-based, complex issues and think strategically; strong judgment and negotiation skills. Ability to coordinate and monitor management of complex issues with senior leaders inside and outside the Legal Department to influence strategy and make key decisions. High degree of responsibility and accountability; bar license to practice law in good standing.
