Associate Executive Director of Certification Services

Position Summary The Associate Executive Director of Certification Services provides strategic leadership and oversight of all physician-facing certification programs, including application, credentialing, exam registration, and continuing certification. This role ensures alignment with ABEM, ABMS, and NCCA standards and enhances the physician experience through operational excellence, quality assurance, and stakeholder engagement. Key Responsibilities Leads and improves service delivery for all certification-related programs and processes. Oversees credentialing, licensure verification, training documentation, and board eligibility standards. Strengthens communication and engagement strategies with physicians and training programs. Supervises data integrity and guides continuous quality improvement across certification systems. Manages team performance, staff development, and internal training opportunities. Addresses escalated physician concerns and reviews exception requests and appeals. Cultivates relationships with external partners such as ABMS, ACGME, ACEP, and other organizations. Contributes to strategic planning and collaborates with senior leaders on organization-wide goals. Supports Board committees and staffs examination administrations as needed. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred. Ten to fifteen years of relevant experience, including strategic planning and team leadership. Deep understanding of certification, licensure, and compliance requirements. Proven communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive information with professionalism and discretion. Strong familiarity with data systems, relational database concepts, and process improvement. Ability to travel up to 20% of the time (approximately ten weeks per year). Work Environment Requires regular verbal communication and computer use with occasional standing, walking, or reaching. Visual focus is necessary for both close and distance tasks. The typical noise level is low to moderate.
