Responsibilities: The School of Music in the College of Music and Performing Arts at Belmont University is seeking applications for an Associate Director for the School of Music, beginning August 1, 2026.
The School of Music is a premier comprehensive music unit consisting of 63 full-time faculty, 75 part-time adjuncts, and a population of over 750 students across 14 undergraduate and 5 graduate programs. The School is nationally recognized for distinctive programs that are committed to high standards of artistic scholarship and performance while championing innovation and stylistic diversity. Our artist-faculty teach and mentor students through innovative curriculum and experiences to prepare for a variety of music careers. The vibrant creative culture in the college, across campus, and in Nashville enhances our top-rated programs by providing rich opportunities and partnerships strengthening our flourishing creative community at Belmont.
The Associate Director for School of Music would be part of a collaborative administrative team for managing, planning, and leading undergraduate and graduate faculty/programs within the Belmont University School of Music. Along with the Director and Assistant Directors the Associate Director will work together to:
Manage the School's academic, fiscal, and personnel operations and support the alignment of the School of Music with the goals and aspirations of the College and the University.
Develop and manage productive interactions among the programs and faculty within the School of Music creating strong interdisciplinary relationships in the School of Music, other units in the college and across campus.
Maintain an active role in the academic life of the school with both teaching and research expectations.
Demonstrate an understanding and passion for the mission of the university and vision for the School of Music within the College of Music and Performing Arts.

The ideal candidate for this position would have a minimum of five years’ experience of academic leadership with a record of collaborative and inclusive decision making.
Candidates must have a terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) in a related field with a strong record of teaching and scholarly achievement that qualifies for a tenured position at the Associate Professor rank.

Required Education Terminal degree required.
Required Experience 4-6 years required; 7-9 preferred. The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
