Position Overview
Reporting to the Chief Research Officer, the Associate Director within the Research department work closely with the Research Directors to ensure the ongoing delivery of the Investment Committee Research Agenda. In addition, Associate Directors are heavily involved in the development and support of the quantitative investment process through the implementation of novel research ideas, the maintenance of the quality of the tools used in the investment process and the maintenance and monitoring of the quality input data required to build the client portfolio. Associate Directors also provide quantitative support to other teams within the firm including the Portfolio Management and Trading teams as well as senior management. Other duties include the mentoring of Research Associates and Research Analysts as well as participation in client facing presentations.
Key Job Responsibilities
Devise, develop and deliver research projects in support of the Investment Committee’s research agenda
Ensure the quality of the research group’s output through peer review of other team member’s research work
Perform technical research in the areas of statistical analysis, portfolio construction, trading research, factor research and applications of investment technology
Develop, maintain and document code for the implementation of changes to the investment process
Write documentation, including papers and presentations for the Research Group and Investment committee, in support of new investment ideas
Provide quantitative support to other members of the firm
Expand the firm’s investment knowledge base by keeping abreast of developments in the field of quantitative investment management and provide educational seminars to other members firm
Actively participate in research meetings by making regular presentations and offering thoughtful, constructive feedback on presentations given by others
Answer client questions regarding the firm’s research and investment process
Maintain the quality of the data inputs and tool set used to construct client portfolios
Provide support to other members of the research team including the mentoring of research associates and research analysts
Assist in the release of new models by preparing documentation for the new model, offering quality assurance for model inputs, and assisting in model evaluation
Create capital market commentaries that provide clear, intuitive explanations of our model outputs
Skills and Knowledge Required
A master’s degree, preferably in Finance, Mathematics, or Operations Research
A minimum of 7 years of experience in the field of research with a minimum of 2 years of experience in portfolio optimization
Highly organized and detail oriented, self-motivated, strong work ethic
Excellent team player who likes to work hard and anticipates needs
Critical thinking and ability to provide novel solutions to investment problems despite the inherent ambiguity and uncertainty of many research problems
Ability to work independently without day-to-day supervision
Crisp and clear written and verbal communication skills
Strong quantitative analysis skills
Extensive experience in MATLAB and other quantitative analysis software packages
Attention to detail
Strong self-motivation and project management skills
This is a hybrid position based in Los Angeles, CA which requires weekly attendance.
