Summary:
The Associate Director manages all annual giving for WAMU 88.5 in support of the Senior Director, Branding and Audience Engagement, including on-air, direct mail, and digital fundraising, as well as serving as the main annual giving liaison for WAMU’s advancement team with programming, production, and web staff. Campaigns will be segmented to donor giving level and stated interest. Campaigns for leadership donors (>$1,200) will be planned and implemented in cooperation and collaboration with the Development team. This position is a revenue generating role and has direct responsibility for annual funds raised from donors giving $1 - $1,199 per year.
Essential Functions:
1) Annual Giving Leadership
Under guidance of the Senior Director, Branding and Audience Development, and in collaboration with the Director of Development, lead the strategic planning and execution of a comprehensive annual giving program across all mass-market channels, including segmentation, benefits, and retention of donors.
In coordination with Chief Advancement Officer and Senior Director, establish annual revenue goals and associated metrics, including the use of dashboards or reports to monitor progress.
Develop goals and strategies for annual giving fundraising campaigns.
Partner with colleagues across broader Marketing team to craft and execute a solicitation and stewardship cadence, including themes, designs, and premiums.
Lead annual giving campaign calendar and ensure campaigns meet key performance indicators, as well as timely delivery.
Innovate strategically and stay up to date on established best practices in nonprofits and public media, ensuring successful implementation of techniques designed to maximize revenue.
Ensure fundraising audio promotions are consistently refreshed on-air, within the NPR app, and any other new platforms.
Maintain reporting on these efforts to support the Senior Director and Senior Management in strategic planning, assessment, and budgeting.
2.)On-Air Fundraising
In coordination with the Senior Director, Branding and Audience Engagement, manage all aspects of on-air fundraising to support the strategy for achieving goals both financial and participatory including on-air campaigns, fundraising audio promotions and spots, and the station’s year-round membership on-air presence for all WAMU services and platforms.
Work collaboratively with station leadership, other members of marketing, and the wider Advancement team to develop strong and evolving strategies, messaging, and live-read/pitch scripts for each campaign effort, as well as amplify fundraising themes during non-campaign times.
Ensure strong execution of host, producer, and tallier scheduling during campaigns; overall and daily strategies; timing and promotions of challenges, stunts and tactics; and thank you gift strategy, design, and fulfillment.
Serve as lead producer for on-air campaigns, assist in managing and preparing talent and other producers, and make staff at all levels aware of the campaign and how it may impact them.
Supervise the Digital Fundraising Manager to ensure marketing and fundraising messaging is integrated and executed timely and correctly across all platforms: broadcast, email, social media, direct mail, website banners, advertising and others.
Manage listener and donor testimonial production, including collaborating with the rest of Advancement team to identify potential listeners and donors for new spots.
Serve as the main liaison with content, products, and other marketing and advancement staff to ensure that campaigns are fully maximized, and campaign activity is also in line with the overall station approach to its content.
Develop and implement on-air campaign training for pitchers, producers, and talliers, including preparation of scripts, scheduling studio and staff volunteers, and encouraging new/strengthening current campaign pitchers.
3.) Direct Mail Fundraising
Develop the annual direct mail strategy in coordination with Senior Director – including cadence, messaging, audience, and budget – that meet the department goals for revenue and engagement. Collaborate with the Director of Development to implement solicitation for Leadership Giving.
Write all direct mail solicitations.
Develop creative guidelines and work with graphic designer and/or external mail house for solicitation design, production, proofing, and mailing.
Coordinate with other members of marketing team to gather design and photography assets for use in mailings.
Manage creation of segments and source codes for mailing with development operations team.
Create vanity URL’s, QR codes, and other digital requirements for direct mail pieces in coordination with members of the product and marketing teams.
4.) Team and Partner Leadership
Manage annual giving team including setting goals, clarifying expectations, and managing performance of direct report.
Coordinate applications, providing impact, or other information to the Combined Federal Campaign, World Bank and any other third-party unrestricted fundraising program.
5.) Other duties as assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Full time.
35 hours per week.
This position operates with minimal supervision, and frequently requires evening and weekend shifts.
Salary Range:
$85,000 - $95,000 annually.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
4-6 years of relevant experience in fundraising or in a related area.
Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and manage fundraising initiatives.
Understanding of public broadcasting fundraising concepts, practices, and procedures.
Possess a complete understanding of mechanics and philosophy of membership fundraising including membership campaign production, year-round positioning announcements major donor spots, planned giving spots, and other membership activities.
Experience with public radio/public TV on-air talent preferred.
Demonstrated technical, broadcast production and editing experience.
Demonstrated computer skills and database management experience.
Demonstrated ability to work with others in developing, planning and implementing interdepartmental goals and strategies.
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills as well as customer service savvy.
Must be able to push, pull, lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in communication or related field.
5-8 years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated experience in on-air fundraising and other membership campaigns preferred.
