The Mayor's Office on Women's Policy and Initiatives (MOWPI) is committed to enhancing the quality of life for all women and their families within the District of Columbia. MOWPI, working in conjunction with the DC Commission for Women, is in a unique position to serve as a liaison between the public and private sectors and the Executive Office of the Mayor. The office tracks local women's issues, concerns and proposals and presents these ideas to the Mayor and officials in the Bowser Administration. The Associate Director reports to the Director of MOWPI and is responsible for the implementation of a strategic approach for the Mayor and the District of Columbia to engage and empower women. This includes implementation of policy and programs which provide resources to ensure that a full range of health, education, employment, and social services are made available. The work supports MOWPI in advancing the Mayor's strategic plan and contributes to the improvement of the quality of life of women and their families in Washington, DC.Major duties
Working with the Director, serves as a liaison to community based organizations, associations, and businesses.
Participates in community meetings, activities and programs to further the Office's mission and reach.
Serves as a liaison and engage with programs to develop policies and program and lead outreach activities to support the Mayor's vision.
Support internal and external communication as PIO and social media management, including Twitter, Facebook.
Coordinates services among District agencies to ensure timely responses to community concerns.
Develop and coordinate community workshops and other relevant programs aimed at bridging gaps and linking residents with services and resources.
Perform other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the mission, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and regulations of MOWPI.
Knowledge of the program services provided through MOWPI and other partnering agencies.
Superior knowledge of critical needs of the women in the District of Columbia.
Strong background in program development and implementation.
Demonstrated track record of community outreach and engagement experience.
Superior ability to work well under pressure and meet tough deadlines in a fast paced, demanding environment.
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences including senior government officials.
Strong writing, verbal and presentation skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of two (2) years working in community outreach and advocacy on women's issues, public policy.
Demonstrated knowledge and/or connections to women's issues..
Work environment
The work is performed primarily in-person in an office setting. Time in the field is frequently required for related events.SPECIAL NOTE - SECURITY SENSITIVE
This position is deemed security sensitive. The incumbent of this position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC Personnel Regulations, Suitability - Security Sensitive.RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
There is a legal requirement that each new appointee to the Excepted Service either: be a District of Columbia resident at the time of appointment; or
become a District resident within one hundred eighty (180) days of appointment.
The law also requires that Excepted Service employees remain District residents during the duration of the individual's appointment. Failure to remain a District resident for the duration of the appointment will result in forfeiture of employment.
