This position has a budgeted hiring rate of $70,000 - $73,000. The position is classified as an AO. The AO salary band for all full-time, 12-month positions at the college with this classification have a minimum rate of $43,880 and a maximum rate of $93,750. For benefit purposes only, the workweek is estimated to be 35-hours per week. The actual schedule for exempt positions may vary based on the workload and responsibilities assigned.

Job Description:
A regular, full time, 12-month management position providing direct support for the Library Director and leadership for the library's public services. Working with the Library Director, the Associate Director assists in the management of all library operations. Manages the public service areas of the library, including Reference, Circulation/Reserves, Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery, Instruction, and Programming/Outreach. Coordinates reference services with other college librarians and staff and liaises with IT Help Desk support services. Directly supervises one librarian, two full-time staff and a graduate assistant. Indirectly supervises student assistants. Coordinates the student internship program for the library. Participates with other librarians in providing instruction, supporting collection development, liaison to assigned departments, and other duties as assigned. Some evening and occasional weekend hours required. This position reports to the Library Director.
Basic Responsibilities
Supports the Library Director in library administrative duties.
Oversees reference services.
Oversees access services, including circulation, reserves and collection maintenance.
Oversees interlibrary loan/document delivery services (ILL/DD).
Oversees instruction services.
Oversees library marketing and outreach.
Coordinates the student internship program for the library.
Serves as liaison to assigned departments, providing reference services and instruction as needed.
Participates in professional organizations and takes part in college academic activities.
Participates as a member of the leadership team working closely with the Library Director to advance the mission and goals of the Hoover Library.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Specific Responsibilities
Supports the Library Director in library administrative duties
Works closely with the Library Director and library staff in strategic planning, and the planning and managing of long- and short-term goals coinciding with the library's mission and vision.
Conducts annual performance evaluations for the Information Literacy Librarian, the Circulation Manager, and the Interlibrary Loan Supervisor.
Represents the library at both on- and off-campus meetings when the Director is not present.
Performs as Acting Director when Library Director is not present.
Serves on campus committees and local, state, regional and national committees as appropriate.
Leads direct reports in practical assessment planning and the use of assessment data and library statistics for annual reports.
Oversees reference services
Maintains policies and procedures for in-person and online reference services, using national standards as a guideline.
Maintains the reference schedule and trains reference service staff and librarians in reference duties.
Supervises the graduate student assistant position and cross-trains for effective service.
Responsible for the development and maintenance of the print reference collection.
Collaborates with the E-Resources Librarian to develop and maintain the electronic reference collection.
Liaises with IT Helpdesk support services staff to ensure close communication and quality services are provided.
Oversees access services, including circulation, reserves and collection maintenance.
Establishes and reviews departmental policies and procedures, recommends changes to access services operations and system configuration.
Engages in short-term and long-range planning for access services, develops goals and objectives, and monitors effectiveness.
Oversees circulation functions, including providing backup support for the library ILS in the absence of the Head of Technical Services.
Supervises the Circulation and Reserves Manager position.
Manages access and support for the library's study rooms.
Participates in Carroll Library Partnership consortia meetings to jointly formulate and coordinate related policies and procedures.
Oversees interlibrary loan/document delivery services (ILL/DD)
Supervises the Interlibrary Loan Supervisor position.
Establishes and updates policies for ILL/DD, investigates and explores advances in ILL and document delivery services.
Provides backup support for the ILL/DD in the absence of the Interlibrary Loan Supervisor.
Oversees instruction services
Supervises the Information Literacy Coordinator in progressive efforts to sustainably expand and improve information literacy instruction at all levels of student experience and comprehension.
Supports the exploration and establishment of sustainable, appropriate instruction assessment measures in conjunction with the standards for general education student learning outcomes.
Oversees library marketing and outreach.
Manages the creation of standardized assessment methods for programming, social media, and public communication/outreach efforts.
Coordinates the student internship program for the library.
Maintains procedures, advertises position availability, reviews applicants, coordinates with other library units and supports students throughout their internship.
Serves as liaison to assigned departments, providing reference services and instruction as needed.
Works with departmental faculty to provide discipline-related and FYS information literacy instruction.
Assists in collection development in coordination with other librarians and faculty.
Participates in the process of academic program accreditation and review, providing library support during the departmental assessment cycle.
Provides research assistance by maintaining availability for research consultation appointments and participates in the regular research help desk rotation.
Maintains and develops research guides in subject areas of liaison responsibility and other guides as appropriate.
Participates in professional organizations and takes part in college academic activities

Requirements:
Required Qualifications
ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library or Information Science.
A minimum of three years of progressive experience in library public services.
Management experience and supervisory skills.
Reference experience and a strong commitment to excellence in public service.
Ability to work in a strongly collaborative environment and fit into the cross-functional nature and close-knit community of a small liberal arts college.
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Coordinates and resolves stewardship issues and data definitions of data elements that cross multiple functional units.
Develops, implements, and maintains a Business Continuity Plan for institutional data under their control.
Provides communications and education to data users on appropriate use and protection of institutional data.
Develops, implements, and communicates record retention requirements to the College community.
Reviews and approves Restricted data usage and use requests.
Ensures that individuals with visibility to Restricted data have completed required training and have agreed to confidentiality statements.
Performs periodic reviews to ensure continued compliance with this policy.
Physical Characteristics
Must be capable of lifting boxes and/or pushing carts of 25 lbs. on a regular basis; must minimize exposure to paper/book dust, molds, and vapors from library mending and cleaning products through the use of protective masks and gloves when necessary.
