What you will do
We are seeking an experienced Associate Director to lead our Global Package Testing Laboratories. This role is critical in ensuring the quality, safety, and performance of our product packaging through robust testing protocols and global standardization.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage global package testing laboratories, ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
Lead supplier (direct as well as TPM/EM) package testing laboratory certification and test methods harmonization.
Develop and implement global testing strategies to support product innovation, corporate packaging initiatives, corporate/government initiatives and sustainability goals.
Facilitates technical writing of packaging test procedures and documents as needed.
Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, and Marketing teams.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance testing methodologies and operational efficiencies.
Escalate testing deviations to Packaging leadership for risk assessment/mitigation.
Manage laboratory budgets, resources, and staff development.
Develop talents and advance capabilities of the lab infrastructure, instrumentation and processes relevant to best-in-class industry standards.
Manage lab testing prioritization and workload aligned to segment and functional priorities.
Maintain and calibrate testing equipment to ensure accurate, reliable results.
Ensure timely reporting and analysis of test results to support product launches and ongoing quality monitoring.
Develop and publish KPIs on testing performance and resources with plans to increase productivity and reduce failures.
Leadership & Strategy: Define and drive the global package testing vision, strategy, and roadmap in alignment with R&D objectives.
Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing global team across multiple regions and categories.
Own the development and implementation of new test methods aligned with evolving materials (e.g., sustainable), formats (e.g., refillable), technologies (e.g., digital-enabled packaging) and consumer-use.
Partner with innovation and design teams to ensure testing enables speed and compliance across early-stage prototyping to commercialization.
Establish global governance and harmonized testing frameworks across internal and third-party partners.
Serve as the technical SME and strategic partner to global functions including R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Sustainability.
Represent packaging testing in global forums, audits, and external consortiums as needed.
Qualifications: Bachelors or Masters degree in Packaging Science, Engineering, or related field.
8+ years of experience in package testing or related roles within the consumer products, pharma, healthcare, or personal care sectors.
Strong leadership skills with experience managing global teams.
In-depth knowledge of packaging materials, testing standards (e.g., ISTA, ASTM, ISO), and regulatory environments.
Demonstrated expertise in packaging performance validation, root cause analysis, and lab instrumentation.
Proficiency in using advanced laboratory testing equipment (i.e. CT X-Ray scanner, automated torque meters, haptic/sensorial instruments, robotics) and statistical analysis tools.
Strong project management and cross-functional leadership skills.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Lean Six Sigma or Design for Quality certification a plus.
What's in it for you
Annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges:
$152,150.00 - $214,800.00
