Under the supervision of the Director, the Associate Director of the Loyola Center for Conflict Resolution (LCCR) is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Center. This role involves implementing all aspects of LCCR’s operations, including administrative management, program coordination, staff supervision, fiscal oversight, and direct service delivery.
Key responsibilities include assisting in the preparation and maintenance of all program records, including case files, student journals, fiscal documents, program monitoring and audit materials, and Requests for Proposals. The Associate Director ensures the proper organization of these records and oversees all scheduling, referral management, and equipment tracking. The position also requires regular preparation of bilingual (Spanish/English) materials to support the Center’s service population.
The Associate Director serves as a bilingual mediator/conciliator, handling a caseload of community and court-referred mediation and conciliation cases. They mentor and supervise staff mediators, law students (clinical, work-study, and grant-funded), volunteers, and part-time staff. This role includes conducting performance evaluations, reviewing and responding to written correspondence, enforcing compliance with all LCCR, Loyola Law School (LLS), and Loyola Marymount University (LMU) policies and procedures, and contributing to the development of a cohesive and skilled mediation team.
In collaboration with the Director, the Associate Director participates in recruitment and community outreach efforts to promote the LCCR and sustain an adequate caseload. They also work with LLS and LMU finance teams to prepare and submit all required documentation for County monitoring, annual independent audits, and contract compliance.
In the Director’s absence, the Associate Director is responsible for ensuring continued program operations, including oversight of case management procedures, review of legal documents such as restraining orders, supervision of case review processes, and providing policy and protocol guidance to staff and volunteers. The Associate Director is expected to become proficient in Workday (LMU’s ERP system) and to approve and review expenditures and purchases in accordance with institutional policies.
This position requires flexibility, including availability to work evenings and weekends, and the ability to take on other duties as assigned by the Director. The Associate Director plays a central role in supporting both the law school clinical education program and the nonprofit community mediation services of the LCCR.
About the Loyola Center for Conflict Resolution
The Loyola Center for Conflict Resolution (LCCR) is both a clinical program of Loyola Law School (LLS) and a nonprofit community mediation center. LLS, part of Loyola Marymount University (LMU), is an ABA-accredited institution located in downtown Los Angeles. LLS, LMU, and the LCCR are committed to public service, ethical practice, and non-discrimination.
Founded in 1993, the LCCR provides alternative dispute resolution services to Los Angeles County residents, while training Loyola Law School students in mediation, conciliation, facilitation, problem solving, and communication skills. Services are provided in English, Spanish, and a range of other languages based on the Center’s diverse volunteer base. The LCCR currently operates three live clinics: the Conciliation and Mediation Assistance Clinic (C-MAC), the Dependency Court Mediation Assistance Clinic (DC-MAC), and the Collaborative Law Clinic (C-LAW).
The LCCR also offers training in communication and conflict resolution to both law students and community members. Its mission is to foster ethical, community-centered leaders by equipping them with practical skills and a deep understanding of fairness, ethics, and relationship building, contributing to a more peaceful and just society. Position-Specific Responsibilities and Accountabilities Implement all LCCR operations under the supervision of the Director. Assist the Director with the preparation and maintenance of all LCCR records, including but not limited to: a. Materials for fiscal reconciliation, Requests for Proposals (program proposals and budgets), contract compliance, and audits/monitoring (as assigned). b. Case entries and files, scheduling, referral tracking, and equipment inventory. Serve as a bilingual mediator/conciliator for monolingual Spanish-speaking clients and court-referred cases. Supervise part-time staff. Supervise law students, including clinical students, work-study participants, and grant-funded interns. Supervise and support volunteers. Provide mentorship to all staff mediators and conciliators. Conduct outreach to legal service providers and community organizations to facilitate case referrals to LCCR. Understand, implement, and enforce all policies, procedures, and protocols of LCCR, Loyola Law School (LLS), and Loyola Marymount University (LMU). Oversee the development and preparation of all LCCR materials, with a particular focus on bilingual content in Spanish. Participate in LCCR-hosted events, recruitment efforts, and meetings. Review and respond to all written correspondence in a timely and professional manner. Engage in community outreach efforts to promote LCCR services and increase case referrals. Collaborate with LLS and LMU finance teams to prepare documentation for County monitoring and the annual independent audit. Review and approve all expenditures and purchases in accordance with institutional policies. Become proficient in LMU’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, Workday. Conduct performance evaluations for staff and prepare appropriate documentation. Be available to work evenings and weekends, as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. Requisite Qualifications: EDUCATION Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree required. Must be an active member of the California State Bar (required). Mediation training under the California Dispute Resolution Programs Act (DRPA) is strongly preferred. EXPERIENCE Minimum of five (5) years of experience in mediation or conciliation, with a strong preference for community mediation or conciliation services. Experience providing services to low-income or underserved populations is preferred. Proven ability to manage a high-volume caseload while supervising and mentoring a multidisciplinary team, including staff mediators, clinical law students, and volunteers. Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience, preferably in a nonprofit, public interest, or court-based setting. Strong preference for candidates with prior work experience in the public interest sector. Experience working with individuals in crisis or heightened emotional states (e.g., upset, angry, or crying), ideally within a community-based or court-connected program.
