University College at Temple University invites applications for a non-tenure track assistant professor of instruction position to teach the following courses:
UC 4096. General Studies Integrative Seminar
UC 3001. Looking Back: Reflection on Prior Learning Experiences
UC 3075. General Studies Internship Seminar
This is a full-time nine-month appointment, with the possibility of renewal. The position comes with a competitive salary and excellent benefits. The start date for the position is August 1, 2025 and the successful candidate will have earned a PhD or terminal doctorate in any field or foreign equivalent by September 1, 2025. Candidates from all disciplinary fields will be considered, and the school/college of appointment will be based on qualifications.
The successful candidate will have experience teaching writing-intensive courses and experience with interdisciplinary programs or projects. A strong proficiency in teaching writing and providing constructive, developmental feedback is essential. The candidate should also have experience mentoring students on interdisciplinary projects that bridge academic and professional domains. Experience working with adult learners and returning students is highly valued.
Teaching responsibilities delivering courses within the program including the writing intensive capstone course, internship seminar and credit for prior learning portfolio course as well as supervision of students taking internships and evaluating credit for prior learning.
In addition to teaching, the candidate will serve as Faculty Director of the Bachelor of General Studies program. Administrative responsibilities include program assessment, managing prior learning portfolio review process, supporting and teaching professional development activities, serving as counselor to the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society, and actively participating in program events, information sessions, and related initiatives. These administrative duties will take place during both the academic year and summer.
The Bachelor of General Studies is designed specifically for adult learners with prior college and at least 60 transferable credits who are ready to complete their undergraduate degree. This 120-credit bachelor's program focuses on creating a solid foundation for a wide variety of careers, and it allows students the opportunity to customize their degree path. The general studies degree combines major coursework (including two writing-intensive courses), general education courses and electives. The curriculum is specifically tailored to enhance students' critical thinking, communication skills and interdisciplinary knowledge. Students receive personalized guidance to develop a customized path aligned with their academic, career and personal goals.
The BGS program officially launched in April 2021. This rapidly growing undergraduate program is helping a diverse population of returning, transfer and Change of Program students achieve their dream of a college degree.
