High Point University’s Assistant Director, Student Experience represents the Office of Student Life and models the HPU culture for all students, parents, faculty, staff and community members. Oversees The Point Arcade and Podell Extraordinaire Cinema, including facility operations, programming, and student staff. Organizes and provides leadership support for the Office of Student Life & Experience and delegates administrative support duties/tasks. Oversees Sophomore Experience at HPU continues to grow/develop the program Executes second-year success campaigns, events, workshops, and services while supporting the university’s strategic plan. Serves as advisor to the Sophomore Class. QUALIFICATIONS: Education Bachelor’s degree required Experience and Training 3 to 5 years experience working in a college setting or student-focused office required Management/Supervisory experience required Experience with program development and/or event planning, implementation, and evaluation required Customer service experience preferred Budget management experience preferred Understanding of and experience with AirTable software preferred Knowledge, Skills, Ability: Knowledge of HPU and understanding of the university’s culture required Proficient in use of Microsoft Office products; WordPress; Adobe Suite; Canva; AirTable General knowledge of the practices, procedures, and trends in higher education and student success, transition, and retention programs, with demonstrated experience and knowledge of programs and resources supporting college students' persistence and academic success. Demonstrated budget management, program assessment, and reporting skills. Basic understanding of social media platforms Ability to manage people, particularly student employees Ability to work special events, including evenings and weekends. Exceptional customer service, communications and interpersonal skills Solution-oriented, positive attitude and figure-it-out mentality Prioritization, organization, and planning skills Exceptional attention to detail and multitasking skills ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Designs and implements intentional programming, educational initiatives, and engagement strategies directed for the benefit and support of the sophomore class Partners with supervisor(s) to develop annual Sophomore Experience calendar and share with all university stakeholders Plans communication campaigns geared toward connecting with student members of the current sophomore class Represents Sophomore Experience and/or Student Experience at all major, university-wide events and speaking engagements Supervises students, both undergraduate and graduate, (including recruiting, training, scheduling to ensure complete coverage during operational hours, disciplining, and developing) employed in the on-campus arcade & cinema. Plans and implements programming for both the cinema and arcade Ensures arcade & cinema facility and equipment is well maintained, updates are completed as needed, and that cleanliness & security standards are being met Develops annual schedule of on-campus movie showings and related programs to increase student attendance, within given budget Negotiates annual contracts with movie licensing and arcade maintenance vendors, and serves as point of contact for each Maintains attendance/usage data for cinema and arcade facilities Plans and manages off-campus venture trips for students, including reservations/booking, advertising, signups, transportation, chaperones, itineraries, communication, etc. Coordinates all Weekly Food Truck Events and oversees the enture planning and execution processes (booking the trucks, selecting the food, arranging for variety of “host” offices/departments, advertising, booking DJs, submitting related START forms/work orders/catertrax orders, internal/external communication, etc.) Assists with the redesign and relaunch of the Campus Connectors program Manages student volunteers or “Campus Connectors” to ensure all communication is accurate & meets university standards, and that all meetings & timelines are being honored Manages budgets associated with Sophomore Experience, the Sophomore Class, related Arcade/Cinema lines, Weekly Food Trucks, etc. Ensures program execution adheres to allotted budget(s) for the fiscal year Assists with procurement, submitting invoices, and possibly p-card reconciliations on behalf of the Student Experience team Processes bi-weekly student employee payroll Prepared to assist with covering the Office of Student Life front desk should the need arise Maintains awareness of all important university dates, major deadlines, and upcoming events Collaborates with Student Experience teammates to ensure adequate staff coverage for special events, including Freshman Orientation, Open House, Move-In Weekend, Welcome Week, Move-Out, Commencement, Summer Advantage, and other major, university-wide special events Manages event set-ups, facility reservations, equipment/IT needs, staffing, advertising, etc. for all events and programs, and assigns tasks accordingly Maintains and updates program/facility web pages, i.e. the Sophomore Experience, the Podell Extraordinaire Cinema, and the Point Arcade Develops, conducts, communicates results from regular assessment of programs and services provided Contributes to monthly student events calendar and university calendar Delivers the HPU experience and reinforces best practices and guidelines developed in collaboration with supervisor(s) Maintains positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with students, parents, staff, faculty, peers, and supervisor(s) Reviews and communicates results from regular assessment of programs and services Serves on various University-wide committee(s) and task forces as requested by AVP/VP Other duties as assigned by the Director, Senior Director, and Assistant Vice President of Student Experience
