Position Purpose
This position has primary responsibility for managing all science facilities related to Dartmouth’s undergraduate education and research programs. The Assistant Director is the liaison for all the Science Departments to ensure that facilities-related needs are understood, prioritized and planned accordingly. This individual oversees all science facilities operations, maintains the preventative maintenance program, identifies capital renewal needs, and works in concert with the academic and research staff to manage programmatic expectations. The Sciences Facilities Assistant Director also ensures science facilities meet the compliance, sustainability, and program standards that support the academic and research mission of the College. Description This role oversees 5 direct reports and 9 buildings on campus. Including the Life Sciences Building. Which has one of the best places on campus, The Greenhouse. Open to everyone and year round you can enjoy this 6,000 square-foot greenhouses many plant varieties while getting a great view of campus. Learn more about this great building this role supports Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp Bachelors plus 6 or more years' experience or combination of education and experience Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Bachelor’s degree in engineering, facilities management or a related field
Minimum six-plus years of hands-on experience in science or medical facilities management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Solid background in business management including forecasting and estimating
Experience in key operating areas including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry
Ability to manage all facilities areas, working with state and federal laws and regulations, and facilities compliance requirements
Excellent supervisory and interpersonal communications skills
Ability to relate well to diverse groups of constituents and to build strong relationships within and among those groups
Demonstrates Initiative, sound judgment and ability to set priorities and to work independently and as part of a high-performing team
Flexible and diplomatic management style that empowers staff, sets high expectations, and holds department colleagues accountable
Strong service orientation and a demonstrated desire to continually improve the services and operations of an organization.
Preferred Qualifications Advanced training/degree in business or planning preferred, e.g., Master’s degree
10-plus years of experience in science or medical facilities management
Experience in a college university or health care facility environment
Facility Management Professional (FMP) or Certified Facility Manager (CFM) Certification
