Primary Purpose:
Assist the Director with the supervision of daily operations of School Nutrition Services (SNS) facilities, to ensure compliance with SBISD Board Policy, and all local, state, and federal School Nutrition Program regulations and department standards. Assist in stabilizing systems, building leadership capacity, and embedding a culture of proactive ownership and service excellence. Support day-to-day execution while aligning operational goals with long-term departmental strategy.
Qualifications/Skills:
Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree in Institutional Management, Food and Nutrition, Business Management, or Hospitality Management strongly preferred. Must meet annual USDA Professional Standards requirements for school nutrition administrative staff. Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to lead, teach, and motivate others through clear communication, while fostering positive relationships and a collaborative, team-oriented work environment Ability to support and deliver high-quality customer experiences aligned with SBISD School Nutrition Services brand and service standards. Ability to evaluate, implement, and optimize school nutrition technology platforms to ensure consistent and effective system use across the department Ability to understand and apply basic financial information to support sound operational decisions and maintain overall program efficiency Ability to comprehend and implement all state and federal school nutrition programs including but not limited to the School Breakfast Program and National School Lunch Program. Experience: Minimum five (5) years of management experience in the food service, nutrition, or hospitality industry is required. School nutrition program experience strongly preferred, with at least three (3) years of direct leadership in a K-12 setting. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Management: Assist execution and reinforcement of foundational systems (reimbursement, forecasting, inventory, and labor) to ensure clarity, consistency, and compliance. Partner with the Director to design and implement department-wide systems that allow for scalable and efficient operations. Monitor operational data trends to inform staffing decisions, forecasting, and continuous process improvement. Evaluate operational data to support informed decision-making, strengthen daily practices, and build consistency across the department Collaborate with Buyer, Financial and Operations Supervisor to evaluate performance metrics and support continuous improvement through data. Assist Director with the administration of the SNS department to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local and district regulations, policies and standards. Identify school food service program needs and help Director set priorities and achieve goals. Direct supervision of Area Supervisors to ensure on-site compliance at campus level. Oversee and coordinate with the Area Supervisors on school staffing needs. Coordinate with the Financial Supervisor on the preparation of accurate reports in food, labor and operating costs for each location. Analyze operational trends and anticipate needs using data, enabling proactive planning rather than reactive problem-solving Analyze systems and reinforce procedures to create consistent standards district-wide Assist with the administration of the Summer Meals Program in collaboration with the Operations Support Supervisor. Contribute to the development of marketing and promotional efforts that enhance program visibility. Assist Director with the planning and development of SNS budget, capital improvement plan. Serve as a member of the departmental leadership team in developing and executing strategic program goals Provide technical assistance where needed to ensure program success. Personnel Management and Training: Evaluate campus staffing level and performance standards for all personnel and maintain staffing at all campuses. Coach Area Supervisors and campus managers to develop their leadership skills, decision-making confidence, and ownership of outcomes Develop and deliver in-service training for unit managers and site leadership. Oversee Manager-In-Training program for manager candidates and new employees. Train and assist food service managers and personnel in the use of computers in food service management. Lead the development of an onboarding and ongoing training program emphasizing operational excellence, service standards, and leadership. Drive leadership development through structured coaching and performance feedback. Model leadership that invites feedback and encourages ongoing personal and professional development. Policy and Procedures: Interpret personnel policies and procedures and provide assistance in the handling of personnel issues including discipline and grievance procedures. Assist Director with developing standards and procedures for all program areas including financial management and personnel management. Develop, revise and maintain school nutrition employee handbooks. Act as leadership team member in the development of the department's program goals. Ensure procedures are communicated with clarity and executed as intended to maintain consistency, compliance, and a strong sense of operational integrity and purpose. Communication: Act as a liaison between SNS and campus principals, SBISD departments, vendors, and other external partners to ensure consistency and alignment with department and district priorities. Facilitate internal committees and collaborative workgroups to support continuous improvement and shared leadership Other: Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct supervision of SNS office staff. Drive leadership development through direct supervision, structured coaching, and ongoing performance feedback. Evaluate operational data to support informed decision-making, strengthen daily practices, and build consistency across the department.
