PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Within the division of External Relations and Institutional Advancement and under supervision of the Director of Events and Conference Services, the Assistant Director of Public Events is responsible for growing and building relationships with external partners and maintaining those relationships, while promoting the Scripps Presents events series and Scripps College as a destination for events and conferences, in alignment with the mission of the College.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

In collaboration with the Director of Events & Conference Services and Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Communications, develop annual strategic sales, marketing, and promotional plans to advance Scripps Presents (the College’s signature events series) and external events/conferences.
Lead the execution of the sales, marketing, and promotional plans for events and conferences, working collaboratively with Marketing and Communications.
Measure, analyze, and report out on progress to goals, adjusting plans as needed.
Assist with the development of Scripps Presents’ fall, spring, and summer series lineup each year.
Supervise student employees to assist with the execution of Scripps Presents and external events.
Assist with external partnership growth and development while fostering current relationships with publishers, agents, organizations, and other potential external partners for event programming and off-campus venue opportunities that are in alignment with the mission of the College.
Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Individual must possess knowledge, skills, and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential function will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Experience with and working knowledge of measuring, analyzing, and reporting on goals; understanding of industry KPIs and best practices.
Experience with creating and managing sales, marketing, and promotional plans.
An understanding of venue programming and production.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to details, timelines, and deadlines.
Ability to work independently, use creativity to solve problems, and work collaboratively as part of a team.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Public Relations, Hospitality or relevant field is preferred, or any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and ability to perform the job.
At least two years of higher education event planning and programming experience is preferred.

HOURS & CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:
This is a regular status, full-time, benefits-eligible, exempt position.
The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. Hours will vary and include evening and weekends based on needs of the College or department.
Salary rate range: $68,640.00-$72,720.00 annualized. The salary rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be sent based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, speciality, and training.
