Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Production Services is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of all production technology and live event services within Event Services & Operations. This position oversees audio, video, lighting and related technical support for university events, performances, and external rentals, ensuring high-quality production standards that reflect the university's mission and reputation.
Reporting to the Director of Event Services & Operations, the Assistant Director supervises the Centennial Center Events Specialist and the Event Technology Logistics Specialist. This role coordinates production resources, mentors student employees, and ensures that facilities and equipment are maintained to industry standards. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, solutions-focused leader who thrives in fast-paced environments and brings expertise in live event production technologies.
Responsibilities
Production Services Leadership - 50%
- Lead all aspects of audio, video, lighting, and production for university and external events
- Maintain and enforce departmental production standards for quality and safety
- Provide direct technical support for high-profile or complex productions
Supervision - 10%
- Supervise the Centennial Center Events Specialist and the Event Technology Logistics Specialist, providing coaching, feedback, and performance evaluation
- Oversee scheduling, workload distribution, and cross-support between professional staff to ensure comprehensive coverage of campus productions
- Collaborate with the Facility Reservations team to align production needs with event logistics
Student Staff Development - 10%
- Recruit, train, and mentor a team of student production assistants
- Provide hands-on training in AV, staging, and event operations
- Foster a learning environment that prepares students for careers in the entertainment and events industry
Equipment & Technology Ovesight - 10%
- Manage departmental inventory of production equipment and supplies
- Recommend, purchase, and implement new technologies to advance production capabilities
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs in collaboration with vendors and campus partners
Event Coordination & Support - 15%
- Partner with campus departments, student organizations, and external clients to provide technical consultation during event planning
- Ensure production requirements are identified, staffed, and executed successfully
- Collaborate with University Events, and the Director of Event Services & Operations on large-scale or strategic events
Special Projects & Strategic Initiatives - 5%
- Support departmental projects including technology upgrades, capital planning, and expansion of Production Services
- Represent Production Services on university committees and task forces
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Required Experience
Three years of related experience.

Background in higher education or multi-use venue operations
Experience in live event production, AV management, or technical direction for performance/event spaces.

ABILITIES
Manage design projects on your own.
Work with a team to carryout production design/support. Manage multiple complex productions with competing priorities.
KNOWLEDGE
Must be proficient in Vectorworks or CAD software, familiar with the Adobe Suite or comparable, QLab experience, Wireless Workbench or other wireless frequency utilities programming.
Understanding signal flow with digital and analog audio-visual devices and technologies.
Working knowledge of theatrical elements and utilities used in most event spaces. Understand basic computer functions and operations. Must have a basic understanding of networking with most of the technology demands of today.
SKILLS
Manlift/Genie operation, sound reinforcement with digital and analog audio consoles, lighting design and programming with ETC family consoles.
