As a member of our Division ofNursing's (DON) leadership/management team, you will play a pivotal role inshaping the future of patient care in this specialized field.PositionOverview In collaboration with the Nursing Director the Assistant Nursing Director isresponsible for the leadership and management of the Geriatric Unit atMedStar Washington Hospital Center. The Assistant Nursing Director fostersassociates commitment to improving quality, safety, and cost-conscious patientcare outcomes. This role offers the chance to direct and coordinate the nursingand patient care delivery of the unit-based professional and support personnel.As a nursing leader, you will promote an environment that aligns with theDivision of Nursing and MedStar Health's mission, vision, and values.Unit HighlightsThe Geriatric Medicine Unit provides care to primarily adult geriatric patients with medicaldiagnoses. It wasthe first unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center to become NursesImproving Care for Healthsystem Elders(NICHE) certified. NICHE is the leading program to improvecare for patients 65 years and older through nurse-led, evidence-based principles,tools and education.Key Responsibilities In collaboration with the Nurse Director, develops department goals, objectivesand ensures compliance with hospital policy and procedure, clinical practice,guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards. Provides shift-based clinical leadership through role modeling professionalpractice behaviors, proper delegation of activities, and management of thenursing team and promotes unit activities that enhance department satisfactionan engagement. Collaborate with the nursing leadership team, Medical Staff, and leaders ofother departments/disciplines to ensure seamless patient care. Participates in patient rounding to review patient status and connect withpatient and family. Collaborates with the Nursing Director in the hiring, evaluation, promotion,and termination of personnel within the department as needed and initiatescoaching and counseling of associates. Maintains clinical knowledge and skills and engages in the provision of directcare for a caseload of patients as required.
