No If yes, please indicate the end date of the applicable) N/A Primary Purpose of Organization Unit The Department of Campus Recreation facilitates opportunities for participants to develop lifetime recreational skills, engage in experiential learning, gain an appreciation and concern for our natural environment, and develop positive social interactions that lead to lifelong relationships. Primary Purpose of Position The Assistant Director serves as the primary Aquatic and Fitness manager at the University and is responsible for the overall operation of the facilities and programming to include collaborative partnerships with Athletics and the Department of Kinesiology. Job Description The Assistant Director of Aquatics and Fitness is responsible for the overall planning, supervision, and daily operations of the university’s aquatic and fitness programs and facilities. This position provides leadership in the areas of personnel management, risk management, safety certification, program development, and facility scheduling. The Assistant Director ensures the delivery of inclusive, diverse, and engaging aquatic and fitness experiences that support the health and wellness of students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Primary work functions include the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of lifeguards, swim instructors, fitness instructors, and student staff; development and implementation of swim lessons, fitness classes, special events, and certification programs; oversight of pool and facility operations including water quality and compliance with local and national safety standards; and collaboration with university partners to support educational, recreational, and special use of aquatic and fitness spaces. The Assistant Director will also assist in budget development, equipment procurement, and strategic planning to promote innovation and excellence within the aquatics and fitness areas as well as the opportunity to expand supervisory capacity to include other areas of campus recreation. Management Preference Master’s Degree preferred in Recreation, Physical Education, Exercise Science or related field.
