The Ocean Community YMCA is seeking an Aquatics Director for the Westerly-Pawcatuck Branch in Westerly, RI. This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $52,000-$60,000/year.

Job Summary The Aquatics Director manages and operates the aquatic facility, ensuring safety, engagement, and quality. Responsibilities include overseeing programs, staff, budgeting, maintenance, compliance, and customer service. The role involves developing innovative aquatic education, fitness, and community programs.

Key Responsibilities

Program Development & Management: Design and oversee swim lessons, fitness classes, lifeguard training, and recreational activities. Adapt programs based on feedback and community needs.

Staff Supervision & Training: Recruit, train, and manage lifeguards, instructors, coaches, and support staff. Conduct evaluations and provide professional development.

Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations. Develop safety protocols and emergency procedures. Monitor water quality and facility conditions.

Budgeting & Financial Management: Manage the aquatics budget, forecast revenue, track expenses, and identify revenue opportunities.

Community Engagement: Build relationships with community organizations, schools, and businesses. Organize events, competitions, and outreach initiatives.

Facility Management: Collaborate with maintenance staff to keep facilities clean, safe, and operational.

Customer Service: Provide excellent service, address inquiries and concerns, and foster an inclusive environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree with 3+ years in aquatics and supervision, or 7+ years of increasing responsibility experience.

Current certifications: Lifeguarding, CPR/AED/First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, CPO.

Experience in supervision, staff development, and aquatic safety standards.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Proficient in budgeting and financial management.

Flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous YMCA aquatics experience.

Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or Swim Instructor Trainer certification.

Experience in program development and marketing.
