Job Purpose: The Director of Video Engineering is responsible for the oversight and leadership of all IT, video, and technical systems across the facility. This role plays a critical part in evaluating emerging technologies, implementing practical solutions to enhance operations, and managing the team members who maintain and support these systems. Many responsibilities require direct, hands-on technical involvement.
This position ensures the overall performance, reliability, and strategic direction of video engineering and IT operations-including studio and control room workflows, networking, and storage infrastructure. It combines high-level planning with deep technical expertise and strong team leadership.
Key Responsibilities: Team Leadership Provide strong leadership and accountability across all technical departments, ensuring operational consistency and high performance from staff.

Managing and supporting the technical teams with clearly defined roles and responsibilities
Providing direction, mentorship, and performance oversight for engineering and technical staff
Enforcing adherence to established procedures through in-person communication and written follow-up to reinforce expectations
Leading the organization and upkeep of all technical work areas-including studios, control rooms, edit suites, and equipment rooms-by setting expectations, training staff, and reinforcing adherence to 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain).
Collaborating cross-functionally with creative and operational departments to align technical capabilities with production needs
Technology Planning & Integration Lead the evaluation and adoption of emerging tools, systems, and infrastructure upgrades to support current and future business needs. Balance innovation with operational reliability and cost-effectiveness.
Key responsibilities include:
Researching and assessing new production, IT, and video technologies for potential integration
Leading the implementation of approved systems and infrastructure improvements
Developing and maintaining a strategic technology roadmap to ensure systems remain current, efficient, and reliable
Systems Oversight & Technical Operations Oversee the stability, reliability, and ongoing support of all IT and video systems, serving as the central technical resource for internal teams and external partners.
Key responsibilities include:
Writing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all technical systems and workflows, incorporating team feedback and revising as needed
Ensure that 5S organizational principles are established and maintained throughout all technical work areas-including studios, control rooms, edit suites, and equipment rooms.
Managing and supporting: TOC/control room infrastructure (video routing, signal flow, audio, switchers, video servers, graphics systems, terminal gear, intercoms)
Servers, ESXi virtualization environment, Windows AD, storage systems, networking, and IT other infrastructure
Local and remote post-production environments
Overseeing system updates, backups, disaster recovery planning, and technical documentation
Maintaining relationships with vendors and support partners to ensure timely service, procurement, and support
Documenting workflows, system designs, and procedures to promote knowledge sharing and long-term maintainability
Acting as the senior technical authority, capable of resolving complex issues and supporting mission-critical systems when others escalate for assistance
Post Production Technical Manager
Serve as the primary technical resource for all issues related to editing systems and post-production workflows. Address and resolve challenges involving SAN storage, frame rates, codecs, Adobe Creative Cloud, and plugin compatibility. Develop and implement standardized procedures and training programs to ensure efficiency and consistency in this area.
Responsibilities include:
Maintaining edit system workstation hardware and software
Designing and facilitating edit system workflows and technical guidelines
Managing the LTO archive system
Overseeing SAN edit system storage, including routine maintenance, upgrades, and procedural documentation
Ensuring all responsibilities are fulfilled either directly, through delegation, or by training team members to perform necessary tasks
Live Broadcast & Remote Production
Act as the in-house authority on all technical aspects of live video production and transmission. Evaluate emerging technologies and platforms to support evolving production needs. Collaborate with clients to understand requirements and deliver effective live event solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
Managing live streaming workflows involving web encoders, bonded cellular devices, and CDN platforms
Configuring and troubleshooting streaming codecs, remote contribution systems, and transport protocols (e.g., SRT, RTMP, NDI)
Overseeing live feeds, signal routing, and transmission paths for both REMI and on-site productions
Providing on-site technical leadership during live events, serving as Engineer-in-Charge (EIC) or Technical Manager
Training and mentoring staff in live broadcast and remote production systems and workflows
Qualifications: 5+ years of experience in video engineering and IT infrastructure
Strong knowledge of production systems, signal flow, broadcast/control room workflows, and post-production environments.
Proficiency in IT systems including servers, ESXi, Active Directory, MDM, networking, firewalls, and storage solutions.
Advanced expertise in Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Media Encoder, codecs, frame rates, and collaborative workflows.
Deep understanding of live broadcast workflows, remote production, and streaming technologies.
Experience configuring encoders, web streaming platforms, transmission paths, and remote contribution tools.
Proven experience managing people and projects in a technical environment.
Comfortable in both hands-on technical work and long-term planning.
