Job Summary: The Activities Director / Restorative Director is a licensed nurse (LPN or RN) responsible for the overall management of resident activity programs and restorative nursing services in a skilled nursing facility. This dual role promotes residents’ highest level of physical, emotional, and psychosocial well-being through therapeutic activities and restorative care plans. The director ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, and supervises staff to provide high-quality, resident-centered services.
Key Responsibilities: Activities Director Duties:
Develop and implement monthly activity calendars tailored to resident needs and interests.
Plan and organize group and individual activities including recreational, social, spiritual, and educational programs.
Encourage resident participation to enhance quality of life.
Coordinate outings and special events, ensuring safety and proper supervision.
Maintain documentation of resident participation and progress in activity programs.
Work with other departments (nursing, dietary, etc.) to integrate activities into residents’ daily schedules.
Lead and supervise activity staff and volunteers.
Maintain inventory and ensure safe usage of activity equipment and supplies.
Comply with state and federal regulations related to activity programs in long-term care.
Restorative Director Duties:
Oversee the restorative nursing program and develop individualized restorative care plans.
Train and supervise restorative aides or CNAs delivering restorative care.
Ensure proper documentation of all restorative nursing interventions per regulatory guidelines.
Collaborate with therapy, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams to identify residents needing restorative services.
Monitor resident outcomes and modify restorative programs as needed.
Provide education and support to residents and families regarding restorative care goals.
Conduct audits to ensure compliance with facility policies and regulatory standards.
Track and report progress or decline in residents' functional abilities.
Other necessary duties as assigned
Education Requirements
·          Must be a currently licensed LPN or RN in good standing with the state board of nursing. ·          Certified Activity Director preferred. ·          CPR certification required.
Qualifications:
·          Minimum of 2 years nursing experience in a long-term care or rehabilitation setting. ·          Previous experience in restorative nursing and/or activities programming strongly preferred. ·          Knowledge of restorative nursing techniques, MDS, and care planning. ·          Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. ·          Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and residents' families. ·          Must be able to take call on rotation ·          Basic computer proficiency and documentation skills.
Work Conditions: Work is performed in a skilled nursing facility setting, with potential exposure to bodily fluids, chemicals, and other hazardous materials.
Including weekends and holidays as needed.
Frequent interaction with residents, staff, and interdisciplinary teams.
May require occasional evening or weekend hours, particularly during outbreaks, emergencies, or survey preparation.
Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for infection control purposes.
May be required to lift and carry objects over 10 lbs.
Must be able to assist with or maneuver equipment such as wheelchairs, beds, and Hoyer lifts
Frequent walking, standing, and occasional bending or kneeling may be necessary when conducting audits or inspections throughout the facility.
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE as required and lift educational materials or small equipment.
Tasks assigned to this position may involve potential and/or direct exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, air contaminants, and hazardous chemicals.
